Take the most obvious offender in this case Tomb Raider. Here we have a posh mid twenties character with nice "features" and, no matter what the whether, always wears shorts or a tight top. You have really sad people searching the web for nude cheats and then you have even sadder people who have set up whole web pages dedicated to her. HELLO, SHE’S NOT REAL!
Fear Effect 2 also suffers from "If the lead female characters have big assets this will make the game sell better but make the person buying it look like a perve!" (if you don’t know what I mean take a look at the front cover) You have two female characters with skin tight swimsuits on showing a large cleavage. Yeah, right, that’s typical secret agent behaviour!
You get people who drop comments about computer games characters like when people play Tekken they like to play as Lin in her school uniform or that Dead or Alive is sooooo good just because the female characters chest "bounce"!!
I’m sorry but it’s these kinds of games that make the rest of the male gaming community look like a bunch of perves who would rather play Tomb Raider and try to get the best "camera angle" than actually get a real girlfriend. Some of the these game are actually good but don’t you feel slightly weird when you pick up a game with a semi-naked Lara Croft on the front cover and actually hand it over to a woman standing behind the counter who gives you a "your buying this for more than the game play" look as she swipes the bar code under the reading after giving the cover a quick glance.
Some of you may be a little more mature and actually buy the game on terms of good reviews and so forth but it just really annoys me that computer game developers think that a "heavily gifted" female character will make a game sell better.
Darkreaper
And human reproduction isn’t a-sexual?!?!
All that work for nothing!
> Wookiee Monster
> MSP since birth.
Arrgh! Wake up Wookiee!
That should read:
Wookiee Monster
MCP since birth
Since when was Chauvinist spelled with an S?!?!
Mail Showvanist Pig
Pillock.
Simple, the same way the male characters are rarely nerdy, puny loners that love Star Trek and X-Files because The Lone Gunmen remind them of themselves.
Duke Nukem, Half-Life, Deus Ex, all big macho gung-ho types that squint manfully, hoist up their belts and go in shooting.
The bottom line, whether it's society to blame, we are presented with images of perfect men & women, we are supposed to aspire to this notion of "normal".
This is why women and men develop eating disorders and feel insecure.
Men have to have washboard stomaches, good strong jawlines and muscles. In video games, they do
Women are to be size 8, huge breasts, minute waists and attractive. In video games, they do.
If you can create any character you want to, and the overiding opinion and influence is one of this unobtainable "Physical Perfection", why would you create Mr & Mrs Normal?
It wouldnt sell.
People are obsessed with looking good, being pefect and trying to be the image we are presented with by movies, magazines and posters.
We aren't like that as a whole, but we buy into that myth.
Yes, it is stereotyping, yes it is unhealthy to worship this physical ideal.
But, at the end of day, who wants to play as a slight-beer bellied myopic bloke or "flat chested, @rse scratching woman"?

Phew, Goatboy comes over all serious...this will not do.
> You don't know, i MIGHT like fat women.....
So you watch You've Been Framed for Lisa Riley, not for the clips?
They'll soon realise that there is much more to gaming than looking at mam's.
And if they receive some sort of pleasure from looking at polygonal melons, then they'll only be more surprised when they're presented with a real pair of hooters in real life. "But where are the jaggies...?"
