Think the point he was trying to make with this one tho, was about the main selling point of the DS, communication.
So, instead of talking to NPCs and just doing random battle, he thinks the future will be with talking to other people playing games, which the DS will hopefully allow. With Pokemon it's in relation to trading between games, and the emphasis is on battling your friends as opposed to the game characters. Something that is a bit more popular over in Japan than it is in these Isles.

Twas a stupid statement depending how you look at it. Pokemon is a boring RPG where you walk around talking to NPC and having random battles. Just depends how you play it.
