Erm, what's wrong with using more than one word that means the same thing?
Paragraphs and sentences would look quite, quite stupid if there wasn't variety in the language used.
You could easily write something using a tiny amount of descriptive words but it would read absolutely horribly because of all the repetition.
The fact you're criticising someone for having a vocabulary with more than one word for given circumstances just shows how much of a cretin you are.
