Ok. Trying to get my xbox back online but I've a maze of BT crappery to wade through.

It appears I HAVE to use the USB modem supplied otherwise I can't connect, so my current router (which is used to basically replace modems by having all the connection info stored on it) isn't working with the setup.

So, probably a really simple question: can I get a router that'll accept the modem that doesn't need to store the connection information and will allow me to get on live (and where's the best deal)?

Anyone had similar problems with BT?

Links appreciated.

(I expect this is a really simple question to answer but I've been dependent on routers which store the connection info up 'til now)

Router's knackered.

I'm getting a new one.

Hold on, Hold on. Let me get this straight. You already had an internet connection shared through a router and now you want to share the same internet connection with your Xbox? If this is the case, and presuming that the router has ethernet ports (or even wireless network) then all you need to do is connect the ethernet port of your Xbox to a spare ethernet port in your router. The router will do the rest. If that is not what you are trying to achieve, then please forgive my interjection.

Shouldn't make a difference.

It's strange because the router works fine for me...
And it sounds like you have the same broadband set-up that I have.

For me the setup was really easy.
Simply the username - your btbroadband email address and the password.

Hmmmm. That actually sounds better since the BT line didn't seem to like me trying to share the two through my router.

Because I've put all the connection info on the router correctly and it doesn't work. However it does work with the modem that came with the BT stuff. It doesn't seem to want to work through the router.

Mabye my router's died.

That's the router I currently have that isn't working with the BT setup. :S

I don't understand - BT are limiting you to a specific brand of modem? How is this possible? What makes you think that this is what's going on?

If it says 'modem router', it has a modem built in.

The one you linked to would do the job, but it's only 1 port, so you would need to switch between PC and Xbox all the time, meaning you can't have both connected at the same time.

Actually, we started with a crappy BT USB modem.
We got the Zoom ADSL router (compatable with Xbox Live, although I still haven't gotten an Xbox for it yet! :-)) and that worked just fine.

The one you've linked to looks fine to me.
It does say that it has the modem inbuilt (I think that most do nowdays).
Give it a go. There's sure to be a 30 day garauntee to fall back on if it doesn't work.

Is this one? It says it's a modem router but it doesn't say it has a built in modem.

Unless I'm reading it wrong.
