I'm in the middle of redesigning a site I created ages ago using *cough*tables*cough*, and when I view the source in Internet Explorer I found this just before the element:

It only appears in IE, not in Safari or Firefox. Has my site been hacked or is it someone exploiting a vulnerability in IE?

Just got an email from my host:

"Unfortunately a malicious attack on our servers has resulted in a minor infection of some pages with Javascript popunders to another site. We are presently working frantically to resolve this which means our webserver may go up and down a few times in the next several hours."

Unlikely - I don't think such a thing exists in OS X.

I emailed a bloke whose photoblog got hijacked in a similar way, but am waiting for a reply - his only happened in IE, too.

In that case, it would appear that your IE is borked by spyware.

Nah, it's not that. Besides, it would've appeared in more browsers than just IE.

Your webhost may well have injected that code into your source. Geocities used to do something similar. Check your t's and c's.

Ah ... I've just noticed that it's gone. I uploaded the file in question earlier but the code reappeared ... but it's gone now. Maybe the email I sent them had the desired effect - the subject was "Who the hell are you?".

Me? Steal layouts?? Never!!!

Seriously, though, it's a very simple design built from the ground up from 10am today.

No - it doesn't appear on any other site viewed in IE.

Brilliant! As usual the careful and intuitive production that Freeola puts into everything it sets out to do, I am delighted.

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
