Sony say that their show will be more aimed at the consumer, rather than the trade. I don't know about Nintendo's, but I assume it's the same.
Now - is this a good thing? Personally, I love dedicated consumer-targetted shows. I used to have a heck of a time with mates at the 'World of Commodore' and 'World of Amiga' shows.
I can see how both companies would like to have shows dediacted to their own machines, with no distractions; and I can see that fans of each company will probably love it - I personally would love to go to a PlayStation show, especially if there is a UK-specific event.
But...
a) Is it wise to completely snub a *trade* show in this way?
b) Both companies have good 3rd-party support, but will this continue unaffected if they snub trade events?
c) Are the companies wise to avoid the show with Microsoft and their X-Box presence? Should they not be putting in a strong show?
Discuss please...

As you can see, Sony and Nintendo have the largest floor space, and Microsoft's is tiny.

I don't know about Sony's as the news that they are having their own show is new to me. But Nintendo for sure are.

The respect has to be earned, yes. But that's not what I meant.
What I meant was that Sony and Nintendo should be there out of respect for those in the industry that are lending them their support. I just hope that they are giving their supporters a good reason for their absence.
The hardware in these consoles can be as amazing as you like, but without the software, it is nothing.
I would have thought that at this time MicroSoft would want to have their name, and the name XBox, plastered everywhere it could!
If i remember right, MS bypassed a show last year but they will be there this year. I can sort of see the reason for not going last year, simply because they didn't have anything to show! I doubt many of the games would have been in a complete enough state to make the pundits go "wow!".
This year however, with the launch relatively close (i dont knoe the expect date off the top of my head), i am glad to hear that they will be there. Now is the time they need to be showing off what their console can do.
Why? Well, simply because there are people out there, myself included, who havent got a PS2. These people may be tempted to get a one when the price comes down slightly, however, if MS put on a good show, and display some top titles, that may well persuade some people to hang on, save up a bit longer, and get an XBox on launch.
Sony should also be at the show as well, in my opinion. It seems a bit over confident to me that they aren't going to be there when MS are, perhaps they feel the 'console war' is already won? I won't say in whose favour, but they either feel that the XBox won't be much competition, or they've got a sneaky suspicion the XBox will take off in a big way.
Nintendo aren't really in direct competiton with Sony or MS. Sound strange? Well, simply put, the 'Cube is a games console, pure and simple. The XBox and the PS2 are probably better described as "entertainment systems" as they can do a lot more.
Further, i think that some 3rd party developers may take it slightly personally that Sony aren't at the show. It's almost as if Sony are saying "we can do it without you", so they've gone off by themselves.
I haven't got a list of launch titles for the 'Cube at hand, but going by past launches, the titles seem to be in house or developed by Rare. So maybe Nintendo aren't snubbing their third party developers.
All in all, the winners out of all this seem to be MS, who will no doubt steal the show and get some excellent publicity from it.
I Think it was someone here or i read it on IGN that Nintendo had the biggest floorspace. But i am not 100% certain.
