Every year the date that Christmas promotions begin for retailers is getting earlier and earlier. Harrods started their Christmas promotion in August, Tesco started theirs this week and Woolworths are starting theirs in two weeks time – three weeks earlier than last year. What is surprising though is that many people don’t see this as a good thing and get sick of the whole Christmas holiday.

Personally I love to see retailers ready for Christmas as I feel it adds a bit of cheeriness, to an otherwise dull and lacklustre shopping experience looking for shoes for the missus. For those of you that don’t like the fact that Christmas seems to be promoted earlier and earlier by retailers in the year, or even like Christmas, then I would ask why but for two reasons. Firstly, I can’t be bothered to listen to you incessantly whine, and secondly its because I’m going to try and second guess you!!

Problem 1: I don’t want to see decorations everywhere I go.

Well why are you going shopping then if you know they’re there? Stay at home and paint the inside of you’re house black*

Problem 2: Christmas ends up costing me too much

No one is making you spend all your money and max out your credit cards apart from you and your partner in crime…stupid you. If you see something you like in a shop why not find out if you can get it cheaper in another shop first or simply don’t buy it if you don’t have the money. Nobody is putting a gun to your head and forcing you to get out your plastic**

Problem 3: Santas Grotto scares me

It might well be worth checking that Santa has had his rabies shot after last years episode, and what your elder sister told you about what the Santa did in your local shopping centre is untrue***

Problem 4: It’s too commercialised

Again no-one makes you buy any of the things that shops are telling you to buy apart from your stupid self. If you see Christmas as something that is just commercial then its YOU that has been taken in by it all and YOU that has forgotten about the meaning of Christmas****

Problem 5: There’s no need to begin promoting Christmas this early

When do you put your Christmas tree up? 1st of December like a lot of people, which is far too early or 12 days before Christmas due to what you’ve heard in a song (Hint: ah-ha)? Just because retailers but their decorations/promotions up early doesn’t mean you have to hate the holiday season for it*****

Problem 6: You believe Christmas is a time for giving and helping those less fortunate than yourself and there are millions of people that need help rather than money spent on pointless presents and over eating.

What seriously?….only kidding, but are you also the same person that only says this at Christmas time rather than all year round, just so it gives you an excuse to be tight with your money and make out you’re doing/giving something for a charity. If this is your belief and you do give to charity all year round then well done – buy yourself a treat – maybe the new Bob the Builder album. If you only say this at Christmas then I suggest you put a personality and a heart on your Christmas List******

Problem 7: You eat too much

So what, get your chunky buttox on a treadmill on Boxing Day

I think as you can see that there’s no reason not to like Christmas or the fact that retailers promote it earlier and earlier each year. They have the choice of when to start promotions and you have a choice of whether to go out and shop in their stores. If you don’t like it don’t go shopping. Anyway I’m off now to pick up my Santa suit from the dry cleaners…ahh a fudge bar….Yum!!

* 5 Idiot points if you hadn’t thought of staying home, a bonus 5 if you have now painted your house black…Idiot
**‘Boobs’ does not finish this sentence
***Admittedly your sister did ask for a finger of fudge…What?…I’m just saying!!
**** Big fat hairy Santa man boobs is it too commercialised, stop your moaning and buy some Christmas cards and a cadburys advent calender to keep yourself occupied
*****No doubt you and stupid you will also be the same idiots leaving your shopping until Christmas Eve before exclaiming you hadn’t had enough time to do any

*******You buy food at Xmas to last you a couple of days whilst the shops are shut, don’t eat it all in a few hours lardy!!

Christmas is always an anti-climax. And the TV is rubbish.

Really, it's only the supermarkets and department stores that have Christmas decorations. I was in town on Christmas Eve last year but only about 5% of the shops had any Christmas decorations, the rest were just the same as always.
I like Christmas and all the cheesy cheeriness and watching The Wizard of Oz on TV but I do think that shops should wait until December before decorating but once December does come, it would be nice if more shops would participate in the Christmas spirit.

Shops close late at Xmas, which can only be good. For example, in my city centre most shops close at 6, usually before that. So I rarely get to buy stuff other than the weekends.
