After debating whether or not to go for this or/and the PSP I'm glad I've got my hands on the DS. The first thing that I noticed was that it didn't feel as heavy as I thought it would, it looks quite bulky in my opinion but no more than a decent PDA would look, the weight is pretty good too considering what's been packed in there.

The menu system seems well designed but simplistic at the same time, I was glad to see that Nintendo appear to have planned ahead and already have the "download software" option there on the main menu for when they actually get the online stuff sorted out. I also didn't realise it had a mic built in, does anything actually make any use of this feature?

I'm also glad that as Disco pointed out when he checked over the unit for me it has no dead pixels at all. The screens look just right and certainly when I tried Mario Brothers 3 (GBA) on it the quality of the screen did look quite a lot sharper and better quality than the old GBA screen did. As I've got no games yet I had a quick bash on the bundled Metroid demo and not being a massive fan of the Metroid games (apart from Fusion on the GBA) I must admit I was pleasently surprised with how well the game ran and more importantly how it played and looked. The graphics do look on par with the PSone and probably slightly better in some areas and the controls took a bit of getting used to but things are looking promising if this is the sign of things to come.

Obviously with Feel The Magic coming I rekon I'll be on it a hell of a lot at uni and at home when I've got nothing better to do and when we start seeing some better games, I'm planning on picking up Ridge Racer and Mario in the coming weeks and with Wario Ware and Yoshi Touched I honestly think Nintendo will deliver, if there is one thing Ninty are good at it's delivering enjoyable portable games.

If this is the sign of things to come then Nintendo will have no worries in the handheld market, the touch screen is a neat little feature and if it's used properly would make for some quality titles, I hope the online aspect is up and running soon because I think it will be part of the key to success for Ninty, handheld MK online anyone?

So yes I'm impressed, there are a lot of games coming and I will be grabbing a PSP at launch because I want the best of both worlds but make no mistake - Nintendo mean business.

Yeh alot of people at my Sixth Form liked it too and said they might consider getting it when it comes out.

All we need now is someone to go into every Sixth Form and let them have a go too.

So I took my DS into school (6th form, whatever) today, and everyone thought it was the best thing they'd ever seen. The most popular game was the Wario Mini game in Mario 64, where you have to catapult balls into parachuting bobombs. Genius. Everyone loved Pictochat as well, and basically just drawing stupid things. A good sign.

Just had another bash on metroid - I'm so glad they give you around 5 different control options and I love it, I'll definately recommend the game even in this demo version it looks like It would keep me busy for hours.

I think it's a great little machine. using the touchscreen just feels so good, after so many years of using a D pad. GBA games also look amazing on the sharper, brighter screen.

Glad you like it :)

The mic is used in Feel The Magic, to pretty good effect too.

And the 'Download' option in the menu - this is used for other players to connect to your multiplayer game, providing they don't need the game too. Mario 64 utilises it well. They'll probably implement the system in a different way if they ever take the DS online.

Oh, and get Mario 64. I guarantee you won't be playing through an old N64 rehash :)

Shame you didn't get Mario, it's a great game and the mini games really show some potential for fully fledged games. The most addictive games are the gambling ones (surprise surprise).

I'll have Feel The Magic to reduce the boredom of free periods. Mmmm

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
Wonderful...
... and so easy-to-use even for a technophobe like me. I had my website up in a couple of hours. Thank you.
