3) "The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch" - Philip K. Dick
4) "The Descent" - Jeff Long
5) "Starmaker" - Olaf Stapledon
6) "I am Legend" - Richard Matheson
7) "A Scanner Darkly" - Philip K. Dick

Ah yes Huxley's Brave New World is superb.

I also recommend A Passage to India.

Another classic.

1. Pegasus Bridge - Stephen E Ambrose
2. Animal Farm - George Orwell
3. 1984 - George Orwell
4. War of the Worlds - H.G.Wells
5. The Time Machine - H.G.Wells
6. Frankenstein - Mary Shelley
7. Dracula - Bram Stoker
8. The Cross of the Iron - Willi Heinrich
9. All Quite on the Western Front - Erich Maria Remarque
10. The Forgotten Soldier - Guy Sajer

These are all brilliant books, some novels and some on real life accounts... mainly the World War 1 and 2 books, and H.G.Wells "War of the Worlds" was espically good, made me laugh when I found out that the Americans actually believed that Aliens were invading when this novel was being read out over the Radio...! Stupidity of them

Aye, they are really are good. Easy to pick up and read. Are those you mentioned as good as the Belgariad and Mallorean?
Oh, and here's a forum all about them:

Definately the Eddings books. His Elenium and Tamuli weren't half bad either, as was his standalone, 'The Redemption of Althalus'.

High Fidelity, Fever Pitch and About a Boy by Nick Hornby
Emily Bronte's: Wuthering Heights
James Fenimoore Cooper's: Last of the mohicans
Jane Eyre - Charlotte Bronte
The Wasp Factory - Iain Banks
Emma - Jane Austin
Brave New World - Aldous Huxley
The Crow Road - Iain Banks
Night Watch - Terry Pratchett

Read these out of the ones mentioned so far and would recommend them all.

To these I'd add A Prayer For Owen Meany - John Irving, for the sci-fi fans Neuromancer and Idoru by William Gibson and for the Gen-Xers Microserfs by Douglas Coupland.
