I have mine overclocked by 110MHZ safely and it is by far the fastest CPU I have ever seen/used. Running games with top whack everything - coupled with the X800 XT PE - causes absolutely solid frame rates on pretty much every game out.
As you know, I had the 1mb Cache Pentium 4 Prescott CPU before I had this and the difference between the two is unbelievable, the FX53 destroys it.
But what is fact however is that the FX53 couple with a big overclock to the 3 GHz range is the most powerful desktop CPU available.
I don't trust Tom's Hardware Guide much now. He's known as raving Intel fanboy.

Where on earth did you get that statistic?

I've not tried 3D Mark 05 yet, so can't be certain, but first make sure the drivers are set to performance by going to the advanced properties of your display settings and setting the sliders to performance as opposed to quality.
Also close running programs when benching. Investigate which Windows processes you can turn off as well.
The X800 is over clocked but the CPU is only at FSB 206 due to only using the stock cooler for now. That takes it from the standard 2.4GHZ to 2.5GHZ. It takes a Pentium 3.4 - Northwood or Prescott - to be clocked at 4.5GHZ just to reach FX53 stock performance, online mode for 3DMark03/05 I am yet to see anyone come close to the CPU score.

Your spec is a lot better than mine and you only got an extra 200 marks?? You may wanna check your settings and run that benchmark again!!!
Amazing visuals.
