I was reading up on some of the 'legal download' sites, and I'm sure iTunes says you can download stuff to your iPod, but it doesn't mention any other devices.

Now are they just saying this because they want everybody to have nice shiny iPods, or can you not download anything you had from iTunes onto a regular MP3 player?

Not that I even have one, but my wife wants one for her birthday.

What about Napster? It's been rereleased as a legal service. Don't know if it's any good though.

Personally I prefer iTunes, but there's:

-Media Centre (Tagging, renaming, iPod sycnching etc) Need to buy it, though.

-Ephpod (Primarily iPod synching tool (and a very good one, too)) but I wouldn't suggest MP3 tagging- it's basically manual. Oh, and it's free.

Also, don't touch MusicMatch. Ever.

MP3 players come with software to put the files on. I wouldn't mind something better than iTunes for my iPod, hurry up with the link, Para my man.

My mate uses third-party software for putting stuff on his 'pod - says it's better. I'll find you a link if you want.

Oh, and Windows Media Player 10 allows you to download music from multiple music stores, but as I use iTunesMS I don't know what it's like.

Yes, the tracks you download are AAC-encoded, and will only work with iPods. Real media have, supposedly, found a way to re-encode the files to be able to be played on any device/computer, but there's a big hoo-hah over that at the moment.

There's a whole plethera of programs to use other then iTunes for your MP3 player, Chances are, you'll get something with the player itself!

I *think* it might be possible to convert iTune "AAC" files into MP3, then they can be put on your player. Not sure though.

As far as I know, I think iTunes only deals with iPods, don't quote me on it though.
