That property site I was making (http://www.rc-fp.com), the bloke seems to have taken up some common sense and is using much smaller images. Is that more acceptable? Obviously the smaller the better, but the GD isn't up to scratch on the servers that I'm using, so I can't output smaller gif's, jpg's, or png's, meaning some middle ground has to be found when using the main picture as a thumb.

Me too. I had to trick IE into using different backgrounds for my site because the PNGs I was using didn't show properly.

Most importantly, Internet Explorer. IE has yet to implement full support for PNG, somethig the whole design world is waiting for! There's some clever hacks to trick it into using them, but it's still a little buggy!

**cries** I want alpha transparencies and lossless compression!!!

Yes they are supported! This is from the PHP Manual...

imagepng

(PHP 3>= 3.0.13, PHP 4 , PHP 5)
imagepng -- Output a PNG image to either the browser or a file
Description
bool imagepng ( resource image [, string filename])

The imagepng() outputs a GD image stream (image) in PNG format to standard output (usually the browser) or, if a filename is given by the filename it outputs the image to the file.

If you're using GD with PHP, output to PNG not GIF because in newer versions of GD, GIF support has been removed due to a copyright issue. PNGs are better anyway.

I'm using PHP to make gifs from whatever images come through a file input form box. I've tried using PHP to create smaller thumbs, but it tells me that the version is wrong for that function, and the guy I contacted reckons he can't upgrade.

Also, what's the deal with GD image function library? If I found it and uploaded it to the webspace, can I simply access the required function? Not really got into that side of things before.

Cheers for your comments guys, I know it is still too big (and the HTML/CSS stuffed, cheers Tyla), so I'm not going to settle for what I've got now. I'm well chuffed with the sorting thingy I made though, very handy.
