I'm looking for a program to replace my msn messenger, which is decidedly crap.

The program signs in and freezes for around 5 minutes before allowing me to communicate with anyone online. Is my hard drive ridiculously full as to cause lag? No, I have 20gb free. Am I on a primitive dialup modem? No, my connection speed is over 200kb/s.

Then as if a 5 minute wait wasnt enough, whenever anyone now sends me a file, tried to send or let me send webcam the conversation (and all my other conversations) will freeze for around 5 minutes before the request to accept a file or webcam is declined.

Basically I'm looking for a piece of software that will allow me to add my msn contacts to it and has basic facilities such as webcam and file transfer.

Any suggestions?

I rarely get any problems with MSN. So unless you keep logging onto a dodgy server of theirs, I don't know what it could be.

Unless you've got Windows Messenger conflicting, or have some kind of bug on your computer.

Maybe you don't have any free RAM.

Am I wrong in thinking Trillian is annoying in that you can only see a users online name and not email address? I seem to remember something like that putting me off before.

AIM, Yahoo, ICQ, something else and MSN in one handy package.

You lose out of some functions such as icons (I think file transfers aren't too reliable too) but it's a good replacement.

I have Yahoo along with MSN, getting chat messages sent to me while I was offline is useful.
