"A gene called Pokemon could be "switched off" by doctors to stop cancer.

Pokemon, named after the computer game, controls the pathways needed to turn normal cells into cancer cells. When it was de-activated in mice, cells did not turn cancerous.

Experts think a drug that could halt the gene's function would be a powerful anti-cancer agent reports The Sun.

Geneticist Dr Pier Paolo said: "Pokemon is a main switch in the network leading to cancer. If we could turn it off in humans, it may stall the malignant process."

Researchers at New York's Sloan-Kettering Cancer Centre reportedly picked the name because they love computer games."

How could anyone with a brain name a gene that can stop cancer pokemon? you can imagine it now:

"We'll have to operate, we need to do something with the pokemon!"

I have a feeling the name would be changed if this theory these doctors had actually works.
