I'm doing a quiz (i.e. entering, not writing) and need some help. Basically all the answers are bands or singers and the clues are cryptic. Some examples of ones I already have:-

Stop Jock & Stop Jock = Womack & Womack
Distribute evenly = Cher
Genuflect for a gem = Neil Diamond
Spanish heavyweight in WC = Elton John

Some I have but aren't 100% are right, so please suggest alternative answers:-

One thousand Romans = 10CC or M People
Keep the horses in footwear = The Smiths or Farrier
I'm fanatical towards the girls = Madonna
Desperate trouble = Dire Straits
Preserve reflect on a famous river = Jamiroquai
Picture House tune = Roxy Music
Clergyman in a long skirt = Maxi Priest
Oxygen cylinder = Aqualung or Air Supply
Fashionable assembly = Style Council
People's group = Brotherhood Of Man

Go! Go! Go!

EDIT: Some answers have been added.

I'm fanatical towards the girls I'm really having trouble with.

Mad About the Girl, maybe.. or perhaps even more cryptically mad on her, or Madonna, which is terrible but I bet it's probably that.

As for clergyman in a long dress.. argh.

They were in the quiz? Wow, I was just making it up as I went along! Cryptic clues to song titles are better- you can make them far more complicated.

Dark Sunday = Black Sabbath
Metal Woman = Iron Maiden
Betrayer Vicar = Judas Priest
Following Airship = Led Zeppelin
Light Reptile = White Snake

The first and last ones are also in this quiz.
