You tell me. I'm doing something wrong here - I've applied for about 10 - 20 jobs and only had the one interview, and didn't get that job. I'm not @rsed about that, but I thought the interview went pretty well. Shows what I know.

The problem is all the jobs I've had in the past, and the one I've got now, I've known that I'd got the job before I even sat down to be interviewed. Not because I'm cocky, but because they are jobs that a monkey could do. If you could spell your own name, you were hired.

I've had a few tips from friends, and from the net :

* Write your CV tailored to the job you want.
* Detail what strengths you have brought to previous jobs and how that would help you in your new job.
* Try to convey ambition.
* Be to the point. (My CV is only 2 pages anyway)

Any tips, as I've been out of full time work for over a month, and working evenings/weekends at somerfield is becoming seriously painful. Is a covering letter essential? What do I put in it, apart from being interested in the job? Any tips on interviews, except being confident, looking interviewers in the eye (which I always do), not licking the window etc.

Cheers for any help if you can give it.

EPOS Installation/Support Engineer. I would get a company car and get to travel all over the UK visiting various restaurants, pubs, nightclubs, clothes shops and fast food outlets to install those touch screen cash registers. The hardware side sounds easy enough, but there is also a lot of tinkering with the behind the scenes operating systems and application software too, so it's fairly intriguing from an IT point of view.

And the fact that I'd be meeting a whole plethora of barmaids and waitresses has little or nothing to do with it.

So I got an Interview, for a job I genuinely want this time, next wednesday morning.

As far as I know there are 2 available positions, both the same, and so far 4 people including me who are applying.

The MD is alledgedly going to be sitting in on the meeting, so it's certainly time to 'wow' him with my skills, self confidence, razor sharp wit and dynamicism.

A full week to prepare for this, and I'm determined to get the post.

Possibly, if all else fails. Or maybe a gentle one asking for vacancies. Go about it in a subtle way i.e. no : -

Dear Boss of Company 349

CAN YOU GIVE ME A JOB????

Yours sincerely

Follow your potential boss' around and try to lick the back of their neck at every given opportunity. Works a charm.

Time to go door knocking. I'd just get more aggressive with the job hunting; writing letters direct to companies, stuff like that.

All these comments on the perfect CV yet what job are you looking to go into cvs should be tailored to that particular company. ten mins gossiping to find out what the job is helps. give them music to their ears and embellish to hell. sounds corny but a list of facts presented does absolutely nothing if its not tailored to the job. What is it you want to do.

never ever use so called cv companies cos you can tell exactly where theyve come from and theyre bloody boring
