Ok, we need more MIST users.

So post your promotion ideas here so we can gather the best ones and use them.

Thanks for your help. Right. I'm not sure of the tech bits but I know our internet staff can tell me yes it is a viable option of no as they laugh me out thier office!

Seems that gaming comps are popular. And one at night to tie in with the MIST theme could be different enough as to stand out and get alot of interest.

Well, looks likee we've got people dedicated enough to make it work. Internet gaming tournaments are slighty harder to administer than LAN ones, as you can't walk over to someone who is misbehaving and physically remove them from their pc then duck tape them in the showe...um, yeah.

Basically, a dedicated server running the preferred game on a decent speed connection, which the other players cowuld connect to. Don't know how SR is set up to provide that, but there must be someone who could find a box to use.

Run some kind of admin mod to watch it or have a regular MIST user/staff member to watch it. You could password the server to make it exclusive too, but there will always be someone who can't connect to it, for one reason or another.

Thanks again Monkey_with_Attitude.

My first banner was the UKshopping one with the sexy undies, a toaster and a rubik's cube.

I have also designed the cult tv dvd one with Dangermouse, the Hulk, a Thunderbird and Mr T on it.

Also the Trust banner. Can't think of any more but I've done a few more as well. I'm just getting into my stride!

The way things have worked out is the guy I sit opposite and I seem to spark good ideas off each other.

For example the UKcheats with Lara is a combination of our work. He was asked to do a cheats banner and I started to come up with different ideas about cheats and cheating. One obvious idea is of course cheating in the relationship sense. At first we came up with lots of ideas that didn't quite work. Then we thought we would get abut 5 images of 'famous' computer game faces and put a line in about computer cheating in general. The first image we had was of Lara lying down (the one used) which is the perfect way for a banner. I said something about her being a babe and then it developed from there. After a short time I came up with the line that is used. My work collegue desgined the look and feel of the banner.

There was a banner we did about who shot Phil off Eastenders but it never made it to the sight unfortunally! That again was words by me and design by him.

I then got given more banner work and the MIST one is one of my first that I have completely desgined myself and started from sratch. Designing a banner for a game or an exisiting product usally already has an image in place and then you build from there. With the MIST banner all of it was from scratch so it is really good when people like yourselves make positive comment about it.

Creativity seems to work well in the office between us and we help each other out which is always good for improving design, words etc.

As for placing it on other sites Tony is in favour of putting our banners on other sites.

Yeah, all those sites you guys and girls kindly mentioned have been looked over (by me a collegue! - loads of them!). Thanks.

Yeah, we are in the middle of typesetting the mag and there might be room for a MIST ad. Would be nice if it does go in cos it would look excellent in print.

I also agree about the direction of the MIST content. FOG has a theme but MIST doesn't really. I was trying to think of a main one last night. Maybe talk of Vampires and drinking blood...then again maybe not. I'm sure my brain will dedicate unconscious time thinking about it.

Oh my god - I've just heard on the news that Richard and Judy are leaving ITV and joining Channel 4! Waht ever next!

Yeah, I was thinking about online gaming (as I have just got into Asheron's Call) and how I stay up till 2am playing it. I'm not the only one in the game (although the Americans are playing in daytime at that time). So I thought about an exclusive online gaming competition for MIST. I don't know exactly if it can be managed or if it is too tecy for us. I could ask our fab internet people (you know who you are..) if such a thing is viable if you like?

What do you think to the MIST Card Trading Game idea? Think of yourself turned into a computer-style charchter in print! Obvious we would ask you to submit (or answer questions) characterics of who you are and send in a photo and ideas of what you would look like then I (and the team) would create really cool looking designs. Then we could also use this profiles on the site as well? Let us know. Of couse these are just ideas and what we have to take into consideration is, as I'm sure you know, is the cost of projects. It has to be cost effective.

As for the ranking points idea - maybe it might get a bit complex to administor. But again I'm not sure. I was thinking of incentives for people to return.

I do think we shoud desgin a FOG banner and ad and maybe combine them on some banners and ads.

We have one more week of typesetting the next mag then we can maybe start putting some ideas one the creative table and start to turn these into reality!

Oh I've just thought of a new one. Offer a prize as a reward when a person gets promoted through the ranks - such as from newbie to regular all the way to the top. This would be a good incentive to keep returning to the site. Would have to be genuine posts not just
resubmitting via copy and paste - could be a bit tricky to
administor though.

Good idea but I think maybe people in their profiles could have points for each catorgory. They have to achieve certain things to make them gain points for sub titles such as 'Creativity' on a scale of 1-10 (10 being better)

This would give the user more involvement in the forum and maybe other users could have one vote for point of everyones profile. So, people know what they think of them.

The idea of being moved up in the ranks could be helped by this. Obvouisly a person scoring many tens will rank high.

kendozod, cheers and thanks alot!

The MIST banner honestly has to be the best looking banner I have seen on this site and maybe even some other sites, it really was a nice looking banner! Congrats!

What other banners did u make?

I agree MIST needs promotion to be popular and as I suggested MIST with Dr Duck I want it to succeded to become great like that of its 'bigger brother' FOG.

I thought the MIST banner had been taken off of the site as I had not seen it in a while. I think reposting it is a good start to driving more traffic. Not to meantion how good it looks, makes the site look stylish!

Placing it on other popular sites would be a great idea. But would Tony allow it? Many sites were reccomended by forum users in an Extra Gameaday prize for promotions. Will they come in handy?

I agree having the banner image in the mag would be exellent. Many people read the mag compared to ukgames.com and are sure to try it out. Again, the banner looks great and shall look the same on the mag. Maybe if one of us MIST users writes an introuduction to MIST to welcome new visitors and it is posted in the mag. I would be willing. But should MIST stay as a 'Night forum'? Is that makes the place so sparse in visitors? Not many of us are around at night.

I think FOG should have a banner by now. Look at how popular the place is. It has to be the worlds best forum in my eyes. But FOG is the 'Future Of Gaming', it has a topic. MIST however, is well meant to be for night, what can we discuss about games and night? I made an attempt at a topic but can much more really be disscussed? How about making MIST a hang out for not just gamers but people in the sports and television/film forums etc.

Maybe the letters in 'MIST' should not mean anything. I said MIST with a coversation with Dr Duck after he said "Gorrilas in the FOG", I said why isnt their a MIST? I see MIST as being the sister site of FOG. Maybe being, one day, more popular. But it will take some more work. Maybe having a few 'exclusive' forum parts of the site on here so that more people are attracted.

I think compotions on the MIST forum should work very well. Instead of people being attracted to Gameaday and Filmaday people would come to MIST for another reason. Maybe if every week a compertion was set to see how could get the best time or score in a certain game etc. But how would we get proof? and what compertions would we have? What prizes?

I think having certain notables etc for MIST and exclusive ideas to the forum to make it more interactive will be the best way forward along with the promotions.Maybe, member profiles along with achievements in MIST included in them? Make MIST the new era of Forums, make it more interactive, this is a new chance. Don't let it die.

Making it interactive will bring users back for more. And makes it easier to get in with the other MIST users and not just joining into a random conversation with other users on another forum.
