Right now at United we're in the middle of an injury crisis, last time i checked the term bring your kid to work day had coined a whole new meaning with them being given a kit and some boots and told to get out there and play. However let's look at our frontline when it's fit.
Alan Smith - Already making the so called experts trying to fit both feet in their mouth and still have some space for some humble pie. The lad's been a phenom scoring 5 goals in 6 games (and if it wasn't for my boy Friedel yesterday probably would have about 8) not bad for someone who isn't a natural goalscorer.
David Bellion - 2 goals already this season and can only get better as he's still very young and always learning. Quick and has a good eye for goal.
Louis Saha - Only finished behind the fast paced froggy and Michael 'Mr excitement' Owen last year (i think, him or Shearer, either way it was some boring get anyway :-D) in the goal scoring charts and when he came on in the second half yesterday looked very, very dangerous, while also showing he's not to shabby at the old basketball either :-D
and of course the god of all god's, the fearsome power of the horse Mr Ruuuuuuuuuuuuud - I don't think i even need to say anything about him do I? Even the most loyal scummer fan will admit he's a world class striker and probably the best predatory striker in the world today
Now i can't think of a better frontline then that in the Premiership. Probably everyone but Bellion in that list would command a place in everyone elses team (despite how the other big 2's fans may hate to admit it, and before you all bloody start yes i would love Henry or Drogba at United) so why on earth are the supposedly cash strapped board (don't forget we didn't have any cash a week ago, the poor sods that we are) prepared to spend 25 Million quid on a player who's scored a wonder goal against David 'oops it's gone over me head again' Seaman, scored a few against some East European teams in the Euro championships and not much else besides that. Where was this cash last year when a much better option, and much better looking player, was being touted around Europe's elite, a certain Ronaldinho? A player so far out of Rooney's league it'd make The Sheep's Arms second XI look like they have a chance against a fit United squad. Now there was someone would have improved United's fortunes, admittedly thanks to us not getting him we got Ronaldo instead who has been a revelation but still imagine the highlights both he and Ronaldo would have provided, and quite frankly i think when we lost out on him to Barca the Championship was handed over to Highbury right then.
So enough of the Ronny loving back to the point, are we really going to spend all this cash on someone who'll probably be on the bench for quite a bit of time? As i don't know why Fergie would take Smith out of the line-up right now and when Ruud's back he basically gets picked himself. So how about spending this cash where we need it, midfield? Keano's not exactly in his prime anymore so we need a battling midfielder to fill up that space, a certain player over at Milan called Gattuso would fit the role very nicely and could probably be gotten for alot cheaper then the old brothel lover. Have some cash spare as well for Fabio Cannavaro, him and Rio in defence = Clean sheets the rest of the season.
Course if we do sign him i hope he proves me wrong and spanks in hat-trick after hat-trick, however right now i can't for the life of me see the sense in this decision

Constantly offside?
I'm sure there are a handful of defenders or players that wouldn't mind going with him, to play him onside in turn. Namely, half of the Newcastle United team.
:^p
