This announcement in itself is nothing new, but what Capcom plan to do is to actually release these games at the same time. They plan to have all of the games pretty much the same too.
They believe that releasing all on the same date, and working on all formats at the same time will significantly reduce development costs, and advertising costs.
Another recent Capcom announcement was to state their intention to develop online games for the next generation consoles, with Resident Evil Online being in the pipeline.
If we but these two comments together, then it looks very likely that we could have online games between Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft owners sooner than we could have realistically hoped for! In fact, these games will probably be released at some point next year!
Can anyone forsee any problems with this....?
If so that would sort out the problems between the PS2 and the XBox, but if they want to allow DC owners to play, they've got problems!
Also, how many people actually have an etternet connection in their house? Not many i would have thought.
Is the XBox going to be available with a modem instead of an ethernet adapter? It would seem a good move to me, because then a lot more people will be able to make use of the online facilities.

I think PS2 and Xbox both have 100Mbit Ethernet, and Ethernet is a standard.
Ultimately i think it will be a very hard thing for the developers to do. A PC type situation will arise where not everyone has the same equipment.
At the moment Sega is doing a great job of it's online games, in relation to lag etc, but they are only able to do this as they know everyone playing the game will have the same hardware.
If a game is to be played online across the DC/PS2/XBox platforms then it will be difficult to get it right. for a start thye all have different speed connections, as well as probably using slightly different protocols.
It would be good if it would work, which i hope it does. I just think the first few multiplatform online releases may not be up to scratch.

This will probably, in the long run, turn our to be a Miicrosoft tactic...
When MS were first signing up developers, one of the most popular aspects of the agreement was that comapnies were allowed to develop to whomever they liked, just as long as they made an X-Box version as well...
Which, in cpomparison to PS and Nintneods often popular contract of sole development...
As such, Microsoft are, on the whole, doing excatly the same thing as Sony and Nintendo... but pretending they arnt ... :)
With any luck, softco's will do the honourable thing and tell the enquiring company where to stick it.
