Now i know it's an epidemic in this country to never actually take the blame for failing at sport, we've only just gotten over Becks and his penalty spot and 'no wait it was actually because i'm tired' excuses and the whole Sun campaign to try and drag Urs Meier through the streets of London and then lock him up in the Tower of London but some of the excuses i've heard for why Paula Radcliffe failed are beyond laughable. Some of the best include
*Oh the heat got to her, she's not used to it* (which is why 2 fellow british athletes managed to complete the race and the winner was from Japan with a climate not a million miles away from our own?)
*oh she wasn't going to win anyway i don't blame her for stopping* (hmmm so what about all the others behind her who decided they could finish the race even though they weren't going to get a medal)
and the very best one i heard
*oh the car is too close to the athletes, Paula suffers asthma and the exhaust fumes got to her, they should stop running them and instead have electric cars (strange then how it doesn't seem to have affected any athletes in the past)
Why can't they just admit she wasn't good enough on the day and was unable to complete the race? It's not hard, She.... Was... Not... Good...Enough. 5 little words that speak the truth. Now don't take this as a go at Paula, she isn't the one making up all these pathetic excuses, it's everyone else that can't seem to get it out their head that England is not the sporting mecca of the world and has no divine right to win at anything.
However i must say i haven't laughed quite so hard at some of the things that have been said so i must give the media some credit. Who needs to watch comedies when you have the tabloids around.

Fair point, but i think the majority of the time British athletes get UNNECCESARY (sp) pressure put on them - because they are made out to be better than they actually are. Whereas with these American athletes a lot of them have pressure on them because they are quite blatently quality athletes.
> OUr long jumper guy, we all knew he didn't really have a chance of getting a medal,he probably knew it too, but he kept going right to the end, jumped all his jumps and didn't get a medal. He didn't give up with a jump to go just because he wouldn't get a medal.

You're comparing the stamina needed for 6 long jump attempts to a 26 mile marathon?
Oh dear.
I feel sorry for the other British lass, Kathy Butler...great performance to come 12th but she basically got ignored thanks to Paula 'I'm gonna give up now' Radcliffe.
> less pressure = more winning.

GMTV newpaerson " And here's where Paula should have won her gold medal "
Oh she should have now?
Other people are just begining to come through the rankings such as the long jumper who had never had a meadal in a major championship running into the Olyimpics, and in turn wasn't expected to win gold (although he thought they were at least 10 people who could win it), but knew it was a chance to see what his capabillity's were compared to his competetors.
