This is SOOOO off-topic, but it's about people in this forum so screw it!
It's going here! :-)

I was looking vainly at my profile, and decided to take a look back at some review I used to do when I first started and came across some other reviews from some who are still around! ;-)

Roll on nostalgia:

On Zelda: Majora's Mask

dan_uk :: Reviewed 12/12/2000

I got this game a month ago (roughly) and now I have finally destroyed the evil inside the Mask.

Over 40 hours of gameplay, and I still haven't finished EVERYTHING.

This game itself is much smaller than Orcarina of time. Smaller temples and less of them to complete. However, this time round, there is much more to do outside the temples.

The interaction with the people in the village is superb. The idea of different events happening on each of the 3 days is genius and although it contains loads of new idea's, it contains enough of the original Zelda to remind you of the best bits.

The skull kid himself is the one you played music to in Zelda 64's lost woods.

GET THIS GAME!

Zelda - the ocarina of time is probably my favourite game on the nintendo though i have a feeling that this may be overcome by "majora s mask" ... zelda has all the things that you could ask for in a game ... puzzles ,minigames and hard bosses. i can tell you only one thing.. BUY IT!!!

So, majoras mask. Well at first glance this game really did not appeal to me at all,the concept that I had three days (72 minutes in reality)
seemed almost impossible. But upon experiencing
this new innovation I have to report that it does indeed work very well.
If you have played the first game ocarina of time then you will have a rough idea of what to expect here. The prerequisite polished graphics, the highly enjoyable mini games and the deep well structured plot all make an apperance in this ground breaking game.
Majoras mask is very similar to ocarina of time,
you have a fairy, a horse and a goal to banish evil in the land of Termina which replaces hyrule from the previous adventure ,however as mentioned previously only "3 days" to do so , however by playing a song on your trusty ocarina you can save the game and warp back to the first day at any time but in doing so you lose all consumable items in your inventory. But do not be disheartened by this as items can be easily found in patches of long grass.although this game is smaller than the prequel this is still a mammoth game in the box and i found it thoroughly entertaining and a rewarding experience.
usually sequels are weak in comparrison to there predecessor , but not Majoras mask, it should have cowered in the shadows of ocarina of time, but instead it shines just as brightly.
The best game ever was just bettered.

Once upon a time there was a game where you play a little green elf and you with the help of the Tri force had to save Hyrule and the princess Zelda. The game was called The legend of Zelda. Since then we got Link's adventure, A link to a past, Link's awakening, ocarina of time and many CDI games based on the Nintendo adventure and now we have yet another of Nintendo's Zelda games but it begs the question why is this one so special. Well the fact it is the sequal to the best game ever is a good enougth clue. This is an abosulutly stunning game with a addictive storyline. The game involves 23 masks which enables you to differen't things and even alter your appearence. The game has high speed races and a certain mask even gives you flying abilities. This game will have you hooked from start to finnish but the question is, is it better than its prequal. Although it is an addictive and highly fun game it does have a few problems such as the new saving system which is really frustrating, it is also shorter than its prequal. But this game is a refreshing sequal with an ingenious time traveling system which involves you reliving events you have already done This is most definatly one of Nintendo's must have games.

How can Nintendo improve on the greatest game ever made in a year and a half? With the Zelda creator Shiguru Miyamto only popping his head through the door during the creation of the game, it looked as if this game might not be as good as Ocarina of time. So how good was it?

The big difference in the game is the use of time. Don't get worried with there being only 3 days to complete the game because when the time is up you can play the song of time and simply warp back to the dawn of the first day. You can also speed time up and slow time down during the game but what is the point of the time system? Well it improves the interaction between Link and the individual characters you discover during your quest, even more so than ocarina of time. It is possible with a preset 3 days to have the characters do different things day by day unlike Ocarina of time where they just did the same thing again and again.

People such as the dancing twins who do something different every 12 hours and honey and darling's shop (yep the courting couple are back) play a different game every day. The huge programming problem of making something different happen has been counteracted in this game with there just being 3 days unlike ocarina of time where the only time everything changes is when you go forward in time.

The game is though very different to its predecessor. Although it feels the same, same control system, same looks etc... But what makes the game so different is the masks. The 3 main masks, which transform link completely, is the Goron, Deku and Zora mask and give link completely new abilities. Wear the Goron mask and you can go at blistering speeds, pound the ground and perform huge punches. Wear the Zora mask and you can use a force field, dive deeper, swim faster and fire a boomerang type weapon and wearing the Deku mask gives you the ability to fly!

There is also the bunny hood, which allows you to go faster and even the mysterious end mask, but could it really be more powerful than Majora's mask? The masks (all 24 of them) are useful in many ways for example the couples mask when worn persuades the Mayor to make a decisive action.

So you thought Zelda ocarina of time's graphics were excellent well, prepare to be blown away. Although the things in the distance are not as well done as the original the graphics are far more detailed. Swimming through luscious waters as the cliffs and building reflect off the ground, notice a pillow on a bed which shows which bed is being used. the required use of the expansion pack makes it possible to fit even more baddies on you screen. The games graphics are gorgeous and ranks along side some of the best the 64 has ever seen.

For the second time only Zelda doesn't make a major appearance (the first being Link's awakening). So expect a different storyline. What a cool one it is as well, Link decides to have a rest from Hyrule and Zelda and is galloping off on his trusty steed Epona. Then he is jumped by a skull kid wearing a weird mask, he and 2 fairies steals your ocarina and horse and leaves you chasing. When you catch up with the evil trio you get turned into a Deku scrub and have been warped into an alternate dimension. You are now forced to get your horse and ocarina back as well as get turned back from the Deku scrub.

On your quest to get turned back you learn of a tragedy which is about to befall this alternate dimension. The moon is about to fall upon the earth and the 4 giants that are supposed to protect the land of Termina have been trapped in 4 dungeons that have been positioned in the 4 areas around Termina. Your job is to free them. And so your adventure begins.

The gameplay is what you have come to expect from a Zelda game exciting, furious and addictive. Also with the use of 3 different masks the game a different experience is created each time you use one. The gameplay is excellent, but those who have played the previous game you won't feel the magic that was created in Ocarina of time mainly because you'll feel like you've played it before. But this doesn't really ruin another classic Zelda experience.

When it comes to music you The people behind this game has put in the original Zelda music (yes it's back) which was absent from the original game. Trotting round Termina field just so you can listen to the music is what you will end up doing. Atmospheric is the music in the dungeons and ear pleasing is the tunes in the rest of the world. The music may be excellent noises may be spot on but.

The Ocarina is back and can be used as Drums, Guitar and trumpets so there is even more musical experiments to have in the game. The music in this game may be missing the legendary Zelda's lullaby but the rest is some of the greatest tunes you'll hear in a computer game. Who needs CD quality tunes?
The one problem with the game is no multiplayer, Zelda is strictly a one player game so if your after a game that you can play with your friends then you are looking in the wrong place. Lets hope the Zelda on the Gamecube will come bundled with one.
A deathmatch may not work to well but cooperative may be good.

So the greatest game of all time has now had its sequel and in theory it should cower behind the game's older brother but instead it shines just as brightly.

On the Gamecube
(up to 18 months before release! :-D)

All those Playstation fans are the sourght of people who would go in to the first sweet shop they come across which give you a free toy with every one bourght. These people don't want to wait and walk further down the street to the sweet specialists which make the best types at the fraction of the price of the other. This is the playstation which includes a free DVD player. Nintendo are specialists they are specialists in making Computer games and consoles that is why they need panasonics help when it comes to the future DVD version. I don't know if it's me but i want a gamecube not a flipping DVD player and an allright games machine i want the best i want Nintendo.

So the Game Boy Advance didn't seem new to you? You think you've seen it all with it's 32-bit power and SNES-like graphics?

Well now you can witness a new, exciting and powerful experience, known only as GameCube.

This may just look like a fancy box to the normal person, but inside of it is the power to make all your dreams come true. The power of Nintendo!

Nintendo has shown us it's power, and it's beautifully stunning graphical power, and it has also shown us how the games play too.

Ok, it's not got a DVD player. Ok, it can't play normal audio CD's.

But that's not what games consoles do anyway!

Games consoles allow us to play games that are specifically designed to be used on the machines to give us interactive entertainment and lots of fun. they aren't ment to have fancy flashing doo-dahs and comedy whistles.

The Game Cube has all it needs and more, to be the best videogames machine to enable us to get the next step closer to gaming heaven.

It's not just the box that does it all though.

The controllers are just as important! The controller in it's final form has been updated and updated to try and suit all gamers needs. Infact, since it was re-shown at Spaceworld 2001, Shiguru Miyamoto has been told he can't change it any more! The controller will never be perfect, as nothing can be, but it will be as close to perfect as possible!

The only downer with using 8cm discs instead of cartridges is you can't save your games anymore. Well actually you can! You just need to get hold of memory cards designed for the Game Cube which can store loads and loads of data. They will be used instead of 'battery back-up' memory on the cartridges and should be compatable with most games. This means you can still save and you shouldn't need to buy too many memory cards.

No console would be complete without a wide range of games to choose from. Most are still in development for the launch in the UK and US, however we wont be dissapointed with the choice! We've got Sonic Adventure 2 from Sega's 'Sonic Team', Star Wars Rogue Leader with it's beautifully detailed landscapes and huge range of sight, Donkey Kong Racing, Wave Race Blue Storm and many more which I can't wait to play!

To summarise many other advantages of the GameCube: The loading times are shorter, the games are bigger, the sounds are better quality, and the amazing quality of gameplay that only Nintendo can give us is still there!

So don't forget to preorder yours now! I'm sure you'll be amazed at what it can do!

I would SO get battered as a newb on here! :-D

I'm playing through MM right now. I never did complete it (don't know why) but it's bloody complicated. I needed a guide off of gamefaqs just to remember what I'd done and what I needed still to do!

It didn't though...
If you slowed down time, you were given 2 hours before you have to save it. The dungeons were cut in half.
If you picked up the weapon then you could start again with the weapon and you'd practically be where you left off.

Every little section was to get an item.
Once you got that item, you never HAD to do that bit again but you could if you wanted to.
That was something I didn't like about OOT.
There were some bits that I wanted to do again and again but would have to start entire game again to do so.
You can't sneak in to meet Zelda once Gannondorf attacks the castle.
Once you beat a boss, you don't get to fight it again.
It's great watching King Goron dance to Saria's song.

Also, going through the MM timeline over and over allowed you to get to know people, get a piece of their lives. You'd see a problem early on in the game, you'd see how the characters had to face with that... it was so much more satisfying when you solved it.

Majora's Mask did have that depressive element though.
Just when you save the day as that Zora and that Goron, when you leave, the people are going to find out that they were dead after all.

What I didn't get is who was playing in the Zora band during the festival? Mikau was dead and buried!
