The Windows Update release is also available for Pro users by the way, but it will be smaller as it leaves out all the security updates you already have.

Yes it is, but for Network engineers and IT pro's only (non domestic and XP Pro only) http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=049C9DBE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en

I'm downloading it now from M$ as I type, all 266MB of it!

The domestic release (XP Home) is out towards the end of the month through Windows Update.

Before installing, I'd read this: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;842242

and this

Well it said when you installed the beta that you just uninstalled it and then installed the new one, obviously MS screwed up. Annoying at the time but SP2 is now installed and I've recovered all but a few bits that I needed to.

From what I have heard the Beta SP2 may not recover (or in some cases corrupt) certain files it has replaced and apparently backed up, take it from us SP2 works fine as all our XP machines in this office had it installed a few days ago.

It's the Beta version.

My cousin uninstalled it and exactly the same thing happened.

That's why you should never trust Beta programs of stuff as big as that...
