I never realised how hard it'd be to get a job, what with me being a student. Me and a friend have been trying for about 2 months now - Supermarkets, DIY Stores, computer game shops...I even went into one of those amusement arcades, Teddy's or something, but to no avail. I've signed up with an agency and I ring them up from time to time but they say the only jobs available require me to have a car. The problem is, the people who interview me realise that I'll be quitting come September to go back to Uni so don't hire me. Annoying.
I also need to get fitter.
I need a good hair-cut.
I need to make some friends at Uni.
I need to stop being miserable for no good reason.
First rule when applying for a summer job; do it well in advance, especially if it's for one in your area of work. I've just finished a month long placement at my local uni, and not only did I get paid, but I didn't feel like it was a waste of time; the work I did can actually go on my CV as more experience.
But if you're only doing it for the cash, then just apply to all your recruitment agencies; 2 years ago I got a job working in a warehouse with other students, and while the hours weren't great (6AM start) we did get to throw women's underwear at each other, while charging on trolleys. Weeee!!!!
I've taken on the full time version of my job now, (until September.)
I've got a pay rise too, £8.29 an hour, wooooo!
However I would keep on at the job agencies. i would recommend in signing up with 2 or more. Just so that increases your chances (even if it working in a factory. Atleast you'll be bringing some ££ home).
If you live in the country or where theres lots of farms. Try them. Eg fruit picking or flower picking. (However not good in this kinda weather) If you dont just please disregard the above
I also agree with Sheepy. Lie.! Everyone lies on thier C.v however not big ones which are serious..
was taking home about £450 a week, it rocked.
then this summer.. nothing. coupla good ones in the paper tonight though, so we'll see..
best of luck to all other summer emloyment seekers!
I never did but that's all they want to hear.
In my defence I live at home and well I'm quite picky with people, everyone is crap.
This isn't some sort of sympathy post by the way, it wasn't a "my life sucks and it should be better!" post - I just thought I'd point out (or have a whinge at) how annoying having no money is, as alot of you will no doubt know.
It sucks.
