I've written 2 reviews this morning and now this.Lord(and oh mighty Tony)please send a Gameaday to my house.I'm trying to write more reviews and interesting posts now.More coming later(if I don't get hand cramps).
So I'm not sure how well/badly its aged since then... but it was loads of fun at the time... the semi-stylised graphics were great, and the midnless fun was excellent...
Although Wolfenstein wasnt the first FPS by iD... and definitly not the first FPS ever written...
playing a wizard... and throwing fireballs at Zombies... the gameplay was fun, if a little repetitive... Catacoombes 3D...
CGI graphics I think was the best avalible display, 640k needed for it to run... and best of all... it worked on an 8088 processor (although I understand it may even run on a 8086 processor PC)
mmm... I've got a copy of it on disk somewhere...
Is there any free full versions available anywhere?
During the first great PC rush of games, when it was still considered to be a workhorse with no way of catching up to the consoles, this game became available over the not-so-widely-used internet and became an instant classic. It soon found it's way into shops and was hailed as a great game of it's time.
How things change, as the PC now gets faster and commercial games success has pushed gaming forward, we forget what went before and the excitement it all brought.
Ah, those frontier days.
anyway, one of my favourite games of all time (I wouldn't put it up as one of my best games) is I-Ball 2 for the ZX-Spectrum!
That wasn't exactly the best game graphically but it was fun! You had to control a metallic sphere around courses trying to dodge aliens and things whilst recovering artifacts....(I can't remember why tough)
It probably sounds boring but if you are into retro games, try it!
> My mates got Wolfenstein. It sucks!
Wolfenstein does NOT suck. The gameplay is excellent, and the level design is much more intelligent than it appears to be.
It's a shame people grow up (That's an overstatement...), and only like games with good graphics. It's the same with kids who won't watch films in black and white.
btw: Whoever it was who said that a review of Doom should be in the reviews section, I don't think you can review the PC version there cos it's too old a game...
[everything goes silent as people realise Doom is a sequel]
....the sequal to Wolfenstein 3D!
In Doom 2 there is a secret level based on Wolfenstein 3D.
