The thing is, though, the price of everything. If I can just get some info on everything I'll need, then I'll be sorted.
I'll give my situation and what we want, then I'll ask *exactly* what we need. You can give additional links to hardware if you wish, but I'm really just after what we need, so then I can hunt down reasonably priced pieces of hardware.
Righto.

C is for computer, obviously.
We want both to be able to use broadband (at the same time).

So what hardware do we need? Everything down to the microfilter malarky.
Like I said, links to reasonably well priced stuff is appreciated.
And I swear - this is my last ever question concerning broadband. Honest.

Not if you get a ADSL router, as that will have a built in modem.

No prob. Just make sure you do your research on routers etc as you need to make sure is user friendly and is highly recommended.

You might want a router that has wireless connection built in which would mean that you could have the internet on a laptop in the garden etc just like http://uk.special.reserve.co.uk/q_GG1612_linksys_11__54_mbp.html again you need to research for the right one etc.
One thing you need is a ethernet card(network card) in each computer and enough cable to hook them all up, or if you went the wireless option the cards etc for each computer.
Microfilters are needed on every single phone socket which has a live connection, i.e anything with a phone, fax machine, Sky box etc. So if you have 4 phone sockets you need 4 micro filters.
So in summary you need
1x router - £50-120 depending on features
2x network card - £10 each
3x ethernet cable(straight not crossover) 1 for each computer and 1 for xbox - few pounds each cable depending on length needed.
