Looking at Amazon and their selling the Halo books, so had a little look and they looked pretty impressive, but just wondering if anyone has them already and what people think of them...the only thing stopping me from buying them is that there might be Halo2 spoilers in them or that they might just be disapointing...

Can anyone tell me if they're worth getting?

fecking gash frankly.

fecking gash.

the first one was ok, the second was complete gash. just a text version of the game. if you like your space marine type books, pick up a copy of 'the forever war' by joe haldeman. now that's a spicy meatball

I liked the first one, never bothered with the second as apparently it was a text version of the game and loved the third one. There are a few things it sets up for Halo 2, which convince me ever more that it will rock muchly.

I also really enjoyed the Crimson Skies book.

Amazon sent me them this morning, been skiving off doing any work and reading them at my desk

Reading the first one, The Fall of Reach which is really good is tells you about how the Spartan soliders were created and how the humans first found the Covenant, it also introduces the main characters such as Keyes and Cortana. Really good read took me all day, recommend it to anyone who has played the Halo game

Haven't bothered reading the others yet, The Flood which is about when your on Halo and what is going on while MC is fighting the Covenant

And the last one, First Strike is about after Halo. It starts just after you blow up the Halo ring at the end of the game. Really looking forward to reading that because it will tell you about the story in the upcoming Halo 2 game, hope there isn't too many major storyline spoilers and twists just in case it ruins the game for me when i get it in November.

Yeah, they're certainly no Lord Of The Rings, though I'd say this was no bad thing because there is no "filler" - it's all relevant. Each one is around 400 pages I believe.

They're not exactly hard reads however.

Plus most people would never have read them if it wasn't for the game, it makes tihngs so much easier to imagine.

Thats why watching Goldeneye was so much more interesting once I'd played the game, just seeing how it followed the story so well.

No spoilers - theyre done in conjunction with Microsoft and Bungie - what they will do is give much greater background on the events leading up to the Halo game, what happened after that and before Halo 2, how the humans came into contact with the Covenant, where the Spartans came from, how they were created, what happened to the others etc... one of the better videogame novel series around - the Brute Force and Crimson Skies ones are also not bad (not brilliant though).

EDIT: I've read all three, make sure you read them in order if you get them all! First one really changes your perspective on the game itself...won't say anymore because it'll spoil it, but thing's ain't going so well...
