Anyway, I was with a mate thismorning and she started playing snakes on her Nokia mobile phone, it's so basic but so addictive. This lead me to the topic, do we really like all the fancy graphics or would we rather pay 99% less for a game which keeps us entertained for ages but looks like it was made with a pen and paper?

It's not more powerful than a Playstation, unless you count the fact that it's portable.
But there are a lot of SNES style games on it! Like F-Zero (Which is virtually the same (graphically) as the SNES
There are serveral games which have been famous for their 'addictive gameplay, yet simple graphics' - such as worms, lemmings, micro machines, tetris and the like. Yet they keep re-releaseing these, but they sell less well. So it can't be what we want, can it?
I always liked Kurushi on the PSX, did anyone ever play that?
