Im absolute rubbish with photoshop, i thought it would be the ideal image editing tool as i began to find MS paint too restrictive and inaccurate. But after getting it i feel like im drowning, theres so many options and tweakable things that i dont really know where to start.

What i really need is some kind of guide, i dont mind paying for a good book which will really help me get the most out of the program, but i would prefer personal recommendations, not just going to amazon and looking for a book with 5 star reviews. Of course im also open to free online resources.

Cheers for your help.

it depends on the original image.. i've found it to be MOST useful. but if you're modifying a jpeg with a fair amount of antialiasing then it can be a tad finnicky..

Yes, the magnetic lasso is a godsend, but the magic wand seems a bit hit and miss.

make good use of the selection tools, once you select an area you can apply filters and things to just that area.. it's good for accentuating colours and things in specific parts of your image.

I played with it for a few weeks, then started looking at tutorials online.

I'm now half decent with it. I seem to keep making 3D houses though...
