I'm quite surprised that Thomas Sorensen didn't make it, as he was brilliant in the games i saw him, also Aston Villa's new signing Laursen, he was superb aswell.
Thoughts?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Which Euro 2004 were you watching? He was outstanding in all of the group game. He had a bad game against Portugal, but then again who didnt? and he still popped up with a goal when we most needed it. His tackling was one thing that impressed me about his performances. It was only him and Scholes that were actually putting the tackles in and getting stuck in.
My respect for you Chris, has somewhat dropped after those lame footballing comments.

well either way you can't disagree with the fact that he was our only decent midfielder in the comp. Becham and scholes were anonymous and stevie G didn't play at his peak. Considering we had one of the best midfields on paper thats disappointing
> had a rubbish game/tournament.
Scholes was playing on the left wing, out of position. He was told to help Cole out defensivly and to do what he could on the left. A bit stupid when his game is to create centrally and come late into the box to score goals, he was poorly used in Euro 2004 and a complete waste of talent. Gerrard was another who was asked to play as a 'holding' player to break up attack but for a box to box player that simply is not his game.
Lampard played in the central attacking role most of the tourney and it is the position which best suits him, and as a result he played well (you wouldn't expect him not to playing in his ideal position)
The sad fact is Sven tried to cram too many of his 'best' midfielders into whatever postions possibly to allow them to play and it didn't work.
He played appauling in every game after the France one and his last goal was lucky that it fell to him. It was his fault they scored in the first place - he passed it 10 yards in his own half to their olkayer then they went and scored.
Also in games he did not play too well, apart from the France game, 'cos he either passed passes too soft or too hard, was appauling on the ball and did not seem to make too many tackles - need I go on . . .
Lampard had a very good tournament, and deserves this thoroughly.
Apart from that nothing hugely wrong in it apart from i suspect figo was a bit OTT
That team wasn't done on performances, just big names mostly.
Nikopolidis, Lampard, Ashley Cole, Charisteas, Baros etc deserved places as they were superb throughout. But Figo, Zambrotta ?!?!?
Hmmm.....
