Now don't get me wrong, I know it was probably aimed more at kids this time. After all, how could a sequel to a film as anarchic as the previous Shrek movie be anywhere near as cutting when they've got adverts for Disney films before the main feature? That was the first thing that bugged me, and the film hadn't even started yet! The animation is gorgeous, though. The jokes may not have moved on (plenty of fart and burp jokes, followed by gurning), but there are clearly major advancements in the graphics stakes. It looks awesome, but it's a shame that it was a case of style over substance.
i saw it last night and thought was very... um... fast.
it's quite relentless with the gags, although some you have to pay a little attention for (there's a WONDERFUL little social comment in the section where some townspeople come fleeing out of a starbucks, across the road into.... another starbucks. genius! :) ) but overall it was fairly predictable heartstring stuff... didn't think the characters were as interesting as first time either, but overall it was a pretty good movie.
i also prefer the pixar stuff, but i still though Nemo was crap *lol*
to be fair though, every time i see these films now i spend most of my time working out how they did certain things instead of enjoying the movie.. damn you animation degree!!! ;)
Needless to say the people on Newsnight review loved it.
"It's such a pastiche of modern culture, cleverly spiced with ascerbic..."
"It had famous people doing the voices, marvellous!"
Ah well, each to their own.
I know what you mean about the way they walk.
Seen it twice, loved it both times
