I don't disagree that we played a dull game, I just felt we were in control for most of the match (as I say, it was our decision to defend - be it the right one or not) and played well enough to deserve the win.

Bit hard to do anything when you've got 11 men in England shirts virtually camping on the goal line and having a nice chat with David James. (Though with the set pieces i don't think anything was mentioned on actual tactics or where people were meant to be) And yes your quite correct we did reply with Campbell's goal which begs the question if we can score virtually straight away then why weren't we attacking all game and making sure of the lead and putting the game beyond Portugal?

Disagree with that, i don't think we deserved anything if we're going to play like that and quite rightly we didn't get anything. Had we attacked all game and then lost out on the Campbell goal then yes i would feel aggrieved, however we didn't and in my opinion we did not deserve to go through playing negatively like that.

So? That still doesn't make us the worse side.

It was our decision to defend after an early goal, which we did for the vast majority of the game. For a game played almost entirely in our half, Portugal did shockingly little with what oppurtunities they had. When they scored, we replied with Campbell's goal.

I hated the way we played - negatively, frustratingly and boringly; Portugal deserved the goal that they eventually got. But football's about scoring goals when you need them - which we did perfectly for the entire game. We were dull, but deserved the win we should have got.

The better team can still be the one that loses, it only takes one lucky moment and it's 1-0.

England grabbed a goal and then decided to sit on it for 87 minutes, merely lumping the ball up the field whenever they had the ball and didn't lose it straightaway, where the sense in that was when our forwards for the majority of the game were Darius Vassell and Owen hardly the biggest people on the planet i don't know. There was no creativity, no flowing passes and no adventurous play, it was merely camping in the 6 yard box for the game and hoping they wouldn't score. Brazil scored, France scored why Sven didn't learn from 2 lessons i don't know but hopefully the 3rd one will be a charm.

Portugal had all the attacking chances and if you were watching Football for the first time i wouldn't have blamed them if they thought Football was only played in one half. England were useless and lacked any spark of creativity and finally got caught with their negative tactics. Deserved to lose in my opinion, a incompetent ref was only a small factor, hell the England team should be used to that sort of reffing display they all, apart from Mr Row Q, ply their trade in the Premiership, hardly the poster child of high quality refs

I'd have to disagree, really.

We were the better side because we scored the goals when we needed them. When the game started, Owen scored in the third minute. When Portugal drew level, Campbell replied with the goal that should have won us the game. Replace Urs Meier with a competent referee and we'd have gone through.

We played like a bunch of idiots, but the fact remains that we scored the goals and that's all that matters.

Portugal will face a tough game in the final. Greece have proved themselves and should they meet the Czechs it would be a terrific encounter, to see the two form sides battle it out.
