De La Rosa becomes king of qualifying in Europe

Pedro De La Rosa has become the first driver to get 5 pole positions in his career by taking pole position for the European Grand Prix at the Nurburgring. De La Rosa has been improving over the last 2 races with a second place in Monaco and just outside the points in Canada.

It was also a good day for Panis. The former World Champion has had a better season than the wooden spoon season of last year but still nowhere near the form of 2 years ago. He will start 3rd for this race and will be hoping to end a barren spell of wins.

In the Championship race, it's advantage Baumgartner once again as he gets 8th place on the grid with Salo back in 15th. Ralf Schumacher is further back in 18th and will really struggle to add more points to his win in Canada. Sato has really fallen off the pace of late and continues to struggle in 20th. Villeneuve has the chance to edge closer to the front with 6th on the grid and Button might pick a couple of points up from 12th. Pizzonia is the only other driver who could threaten the Championship leaders at this race, but he starts 14th.

De La Rosa could give his Championship challenge a boost and help MG F1 as well with pole position. Raikkonen could use more points and starts 2nd. Panis is hoping to get himself in the hunt for another World Championship with 3rd on the grid. Montoya has had 2 3rd places in a row and could improve his points tally with 4th on the grid. Heidfeld gives Sauber a boost with 5th. Villeneuve has improved Ferrari fortunes and starts 6th. Verstappen and Baumgartner make it a Minardi 4th row with 7th and 8th on the grid respectively.

22nd M Schumacher (Notorious Biggles) 1m15.455s (+0.393s)

With so much at stake, as we reach the halfway point, who will come out at the front? We'll find out!

(Side note: My CD Drive went bust yesterday. I have a back up but it's not as good. The race may be delayed but I will try to get it on here on Wednesday. Thank you.)
