...was, in my opinion, the best penalty taken during the shoot-out - possibly disregarding Postiga's.

But it was near perfect. Right into the corner, plenty of power - James had no chance of stopping it.
What a guy.

Saves a penalty with no gloves, then scores the winning penalty. I'm going to sign this guy on Pro Evo.

Yeah me too. Except I never played in goal.

From my experience of taking penalties though, you make your mind up before you take it. You don't watch what the keeper does, and you certainly dont change your mind.

Rule number one as a keeper: When the other team take a penalty and are under pressure STAND IN THE MIDDLE WITH YOUR ARMS OUTSTRETCHED. It works most of the time. Had James not dived to the side, he'd have saved 4 of them.

Yes I occasionally played goals when I was younger, though I was a far better left sided wonderer/winger/dead ball dude.

Obviously not - or else it'd be me out there instead of him.

But it's just my personal feelings, and from experience of being on the receiving end of penalties when playing in goal, that he'd save more if he focused on the ball and went with it.

In fairness to David James, up until the penalty shoot out, he had a good game. One of our best players. Along with Sol, and Ashley Cole.

Regarding penalties, I'd decide the way I was going BEFORE the penalty is taken; if you wait to see which way he'll take it, then you'll lose 0.2secs of movement which could be crucial in saving it.

Of course, the opposite could be said about the Kicker being able to see the goalie fall in advance of the penalty being kicked.

For some reason, I read this in the voice of the bumble bee guy in The Simpsons.
