My computer crashed yesterday or something, and for some reason unknown to mankind, when prompted about windows updates I closed the box.

So today windows was playing up a bit, freezing for a few seconds every few seconds. So I went onto Windows Update site, and it said I had 11 critical updates to download. 10 downloaded and installed. One didn't. Windows Blaster Worm Removal Tool (KB833330) decides it wont install, and I've tried it with my Anti-Virus on and off.

I can only assume that perhaps I have to blaster worm virus.

So if anyone has any knowledge of computers and could help, I would be extremely grateful.

Thanks.

To cure a slow start up, stop things starting on start up.

For instance, Steam, the Half Life thing on my PC started up with Windows. I unchecked the box and now the PC boots a couple of seconds faster.

Other things include MSN Messenger, Quicktime, anti virus software, spyware and their removers. A whole bunch of stuff.

Score. Yeah I remember the blaster virus now. Its not that. Ah well.

Only problem with PC now, is that when XP is opening, you know how there's a black screen it says "Window's XP" and the blue bar scrolls right across the screen, that keeps stopping and takes like 30 seconds.

Ta.

With the blaster virus you get a box appearing that tells you that Windows has to shut down and counts down a timer of around 60 seconds for you to save stuff.

If you aren't getting that, and if you keep your anti-virus software up to date, then you won't have it.

Instead, just download the updates, install them, reboot, scan disk, disk clean up, defrag.

Well I don't know. I've had it before and got rid of it. And my computer's playing up, and Windows Update says I have a critical update to install, with this being the one.

But i'm not really a computer genius, so I wouldn't really know.

What are the symptoms of the blaster virus, Doc?
