Well the Playstation 2 is where Sony got their chance to prove themselves but it was never as good as we all hoped. The games have yet to set the world alight, the console is very difficult to work on and in a year it will be outdated by the Gamecube and X-box. So what are Sony experts at doing? Making TV’s, CD player’s and DVD player’s. A TV type system appeared on the Playstation one, the ability to play CD’s has always been possible to do on a Sony console and DVD is now on the Playstation 2.
This is why I think the X-box will be able to do a lot of things a PC can do because that is what Microsoft are good at. Now Nintendo and Sega are two companies whom expertise in gaming hardware and software.
So what right has Sony got to nearly put Nintendo out of the hardware business (thank goodness for Pokémon) and force Sega to becoming a 3rd party developer? These Japanese giants are masters at making consoles unlike Sony but it is Sony that sits on top of the gaming market.
Is a console where advertisement, the use of a DVD player and with capabilities to do things that a PC can do, a console that should be leading the gaming market? The future of gaming may hold a console that cooks you dinner, washes the dishes and puts the cat out, oh and it also plays computer games. What is happening to the gaming industry? Will the future of gaming herald the death of the games console? Will an expensive multimedia console be the only thing left?
Here’s to the future

When did Microsoft go in to producing computers? Interesting news :-)
Windows runs fairly well for the amount of work it has to do, but it's main fault is in memory usage which seems to get worse, rather than better, over time. The actual Windows front end has improved considerably, but you need to use the improvements to notice them.
This, of course, has nothing to do with their development of the X-box or it's software as it is a completely different arm of the company. It would be like saying that the Playstation should have had a tape drive as Sony were more used to producing walkman units at the time.

Arguably? Well I'd argue with than statement anyway! My opinion is that it was the best marketed console ever, certainly different to saying it was the best console ever.
My opinion of course.
No, Sony have a good marketing team and some of the games are good, but then if you think about it, most third party games could have been written for any console, the Playstation was just the lucky one to get those good examples (along with many bad ones of course) This can be seen in Sega's new stratagy to publish games on other formats. Currently, I believe that the Dreamcast has the best good to bad games ratio of any console and Sega created a lot of the good games, which is excellent news for any console producer that they are currently writing or licencing games for.
Yes, Sony used the right ideas and created a pretty good piece of kit for the time (although the Saturn was just as powerful and handled 2D games better) but it was Sony's marketing rather than the hardware that clinched it.
You didn't design that some one else did it for you you feel to great you would think yeah but i put 6 and a half hours in to this and i Made it so thats wot sony did(or on those lines) and sony make other things aswell so give sony there credit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I adressed the console issue.
Sonic
I'm just getting annoyed that Sony who to be honest aren't expert games makers have stopped Sega and broke down Nintendo.
