I just been thinking about how some forms of art has remained popular despite being 100 years old. Students today are still studing Dickens, Chaucer and of course Shakespeare.

Maybe in 100 years times students will be studing the Harry Potter books and cursing JK Rowling for all the exams they have to take on her work!

It's because English slang and whatnot has changed so much since then. Unless you're fluent in Tudor English, you need to translate every line to appreciate it.

No wonder kids hate it, I mean it's hard enough for some of them to READ a word, let alone translate it...

It's not just books though, think about music...
Who was the Mozart of the 20th Century?

Shakespeare was, at the time, mass pulp entertainment for the general public and played to a common audience.

The 1500's equivalent of "Star Trek" for example.

This amuses me greatly, considering the luvey and highly intellectual way it is regarded today.

i dunno, most books we read have a hidden meaning, old or just crap. Which catergory does harry potter fit into?

At least the book will be easier to understand unlike shakespear or the those books with hidden meanings.

She was talking to me, rat_man.

First she wrote, "Harry Potter boys", meaning books.

But Shakespeares tales, despite being barely readable, were cool. There were murders aplenty, incest, women dressing up as men and general corruption.

If I was forced to learn about young boys and beardy types, I'd feel short changed.

Can you imagine some really pervy teacher discussing the young boys as though they were works of art?
