I'm asking because a friend just sent me an email which is just scaremongering as far as I'm concerned. It relates to the fact that if you sniff a piece of card with ether on it you will pass out.

This just strikes me as totally wrong, it just doesn't act that fast surely.

Hi, I'm not new to this site and this is normal as far as I'm concerned.

Thanks Ros.

I'd received an email, the gist of it, saying that women were being approached by men who offer you a smell of the card with 'perfume' on it but it's really ether and you will pass out. Now it actually made me laugh as they are approached outside and ether will not knock you out that easily. Then I got to thinking of the more gullible.

Just spoke to another friend who admitted to receiving this same email earlier and passing around. To which I replied "So best friend, why didn't you send it to me. Her answer was along the lines of she didn't want me to give her an earfull. Which means she had doubts about it and still sent it around.

Sometimes I just despair.

Acording to www.snopes.com

"Ether is nasty, volatile stuff that requires a great deal more than a few brief inhalations to knock a person out"

That's what I thought. Either that or Hollywood has been leading me astray.

Ah, just checked some site via Google. Chloroform is more dangerous than Ether.

It's freely available in Holland, y'know...

Yeah youve got me confused now, whatever it is, it supposedly knocks you out instantly providing youre not breathing too much oxygen at that same time.

It acts rather fast indeed. Although merely sniffing a piece of card with ether on it wouldnt really do the trick. Ideally you would need to smother them with a cloth that has it on.

I thought that was Chloroform?

Or am I just incredibly thick and they are both the same thing?
