I have a great idea for a new reality TV game show but no studio bosses will go for it. I had the contestants already picked out and knew who the winner was going to be and every death was perfectly synchronised. The reality shows that get aired today are just so wishy washy with nothing of any interest to anyone with half a brain cell. I couldn't see what was wrong with my idea so let's see what you think.

Now imagine the opening scenes taking you through the course which the contestants have to run. It is, of course, a cross between the endless tunnels which superheroes chasing after priceless artefacts have to navigate and cells of unknown danger. The contestants have to run this course and the first one to reach the prize, wins.

The prize? Oh, it is called the Mask of Markopan, a very plain, unassuming black mask, and I can guarantee to you that it is the genuine article. I've played with it myself on numerous occasions as it has the power to grant the wearer the realisation of their deepest desires. Infact I was wearing it when I came up with this idea.

The contestants would be:

1. Ashman
2. Black Glove
3. Final Fantasy Fanatic
4. Grix Thraves
5. Just Tinka
6. Lil Bro
7. Meka Dragon
8. Paradox
9. pb
10. RoJ
11. Sheepy
12. Silent Thunder
13. Wakka
14. Ineedsleep

The first 13 contestants will start together and enter through 13 different doors. Contestants 1, 2 and 3 will walk unscathed into the white gun room containing a table, gun (yes, obviously) and three straws. My version of Russian Roulette means that, unbeknown to the contestants, the gun is fully loaded. The writer, er, um, I mean the contestant left standing will exit the door believing they are safe. At which point I will press a button and they will fall down a level to land on a bed of 3 ft spikes (Ha! walk out of that!).

Contestants 4, 5 and 6 will walk into the red poison room with a table, three drinks and three straws. Yes, you already have the right idea. 2 of them are poisoned, 1 is not. Again the last contestant will walk cautiously out of the room, believing they have survived, only for me to press my little button.

Contestants 7, 8 and 9 will walk into the purple spear room. It will be empty when they enter, spears will be fired out of the walls at them, none will walk out.

Contestant 10 will trip a trap and die under a pile of rocks.

Contestant 11 will trip a trap and fall into a pit of deadly snakes.

Contestant 12 will trip a trap and fall into a pit of scorpions.

Should any of these three contestants evade their traps then I will just press my button and dump them onto the 3 ft spikes.

Contestant 13? I'll just leave him wandering around the place and forget about him :)

Contestant 14 will walk down a tunnel which is open to the blue sky, with grass and flowers underfoot and arrive unscathed to collect the prize.

As the mask delves deep into the subconscious this is where my idea comes from. Upon presenting it to one studio boss he asked me a simple question - don't they all enter ongoing story competitions on SR? Well, since it was brought to my attention, yes, actually, they do. What a coincidence.

My conscious did point out two small flaws:

1. I'd previously killed off Black Glove in a previous story and it seemed a little unfair to do him in again.

2. As Black Glove is the judge of the current crop of stories, killing him would mean that my deepest desire wouldn't be realised.

A catch 22 situation if every there was one. What the hell, I'm taking the mask anyway.

Not really (sigh) but it ended up being the only idea I didn't chuck out. Unicorns and rainbows didn't work. Blood and gore wasn't originally enough :(

But this was fun to do and some of the replies have uncovered some amazing and quirky facts about the writers who enter in here :D

I read it, and it was a nice idea but not exactly what I was expecting.

Quirky, mysterious, a fairly enjoyable and humerous read too.

Did I never tell you that I was born with a bulletproof skull and that my skin was fashioned by the God of Foresight from anti-spike velveteen leather? -

Quirky idea (but is it a story)...

I don't know, it kinda reminded me of Sadi the Eunuch from The Belgariad. He dosed himself up with all kinds of antidotes so that he couldn't be poisoned :)

You fell victim to one of the classic blunders. The most famous is "never get involved in a land war in Asia", but only slightly less well known is this... "never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line". Hahahaaha!
