STDs are the shortened term for sexually transmitted diseases or VD (venereal disease). There are more than 50 separate strains of VD or STDs out there. They are transmitted by body fluid exchange such as semen, v@ginal secretions, and blood, with Herpes it can be transferred by kissing. Not all of these diseases can be cured, some only maintained.
These diseases are more prevalent in college age students 25 and younger. The most common STDs in this age bracket include chlamydia, genital herpes , crabs, and genital warts.
Signs and Symptoms of STDs
What to watch for or notice after sexual intercourse. Any new or unusual discharge or odor from the v@gina and/ or discharge from the penis, usually a yellow or green color, thick in texture, pain in the pelvis, burning or itching around the v@gina or penis, unusual bleeding, painful intercourse, sores, bumps or blisters in or around the genital area, burning or pain during urination, flu-like symptoms which could include fever, aches and pains, tired, or weakness. Depending on your type of sexual activity you may experience some of these symptoms around the anus or buttocks including unusual bumps blisters and sore, this also goes for oral intercourse you may notice these in and around the mouth.
Types of STDs and Treatment
Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, Syphilis, Genital herpes, Genital Warts, HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis, Crabs are the most common STDs.
Some STDs can be cured with antibiotics if diagnosed early such as Gonorrhea, Chlamydia and Syphilis, but if left untreated it can cause serious medical problems and even infertility. Crabs can be treated with a dose of medication that is available over the counter, or you doctor may give you a prescription for Qwell shampoo or lotion.
HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis, Herpes, Genital Warts are never cured they are only managed. You will be able to pass this along to your next partner sometimes without even knowing you are infected. Warts can be burned off in your doctors office, but often may return. You may not have signs of Herpes but you will always shed the virus. HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis are passed through the body and becomes blood borne pathogen, these are managed but not treatable, you need to tell your partners if you are infected with any of these so they may also be checked by their physician.
Most all of these can be prevented if proper precautions are taken. Such as using condoms, but even that does not prevent the possibility of Herpes or Crabs. Even during foreplay if genitals are infected and you are in contact with them you may become infected yourself. If you feel you have an STD please contact your physician and be honest about how, where and who you were with. Abstinence is the only true preventative of these diseases.
