When I mentioned this amazing event a few weeks back, I received a response made up of people either not knowing who Kevin Smith was or just not wanting to go. Well, I went. There's no way I was going to miss the chance to spend four hours or so in the company of one of my heroes and favourite directors.

It was at The Prince Charles cinema, London which was a fantastic choice of location. The room held about 500 or so people and so the atmosphere was fantastic! Kevin even mentioned how he could see everyone’s face; it was that small of a venue. The show went on for a staggering amount of time. Not sure on the exact number but it lays somewhere between 4 and half and 5 hours...without a break. How one man can stand up on a stage talk for that long and without boring the audience amazes me. After that amount of time, I felt like I'd known him for years.

Some of you may have the Evening With Kevin Smith DVD (If you don't it's out on R2 on the 21st June) and so you'll know kind of how these play out. Although as this was a small venue, the audience just raised the hand and asked away. Some stories from the DVD were briefly told, but he realised the most of us there were hardcore and had heard them before, so kept it fresh.

Some of the best moments came from a question on the inspiration for the characters in Clerks. Kevin told a story about how Quick Stop sold a brand of margarine that couldn't be found anywhere else. One day him and his work buddy put a tub on the counter with a bold sign saying "Now in stock!". He went on to recreate the reaction from one of his customers, who got really wound up by the sign and stormed out for no reason at all. He also told the history of the "I eat c**k" joke which was also fantastic.

He was asked how he felt about George Lucas adding to Star Wars again and he just said it's his film let him do what he wants with it. An opinion on the matter that I don't think I've heard before. But then he went on to Greedo shooting first. Everyone knew it was coming; I mean how could he talk about changes to Star Wars and not mention that? He also said what changes he would like to make to the films, including Hans Solo and Princess leia going a bit further and replacing the Ewoks with some type of alien fish.

It wasn't all lighthearted fun though. When the topic of Jason Mewes' drug addiction came up the room took a more serious touch. He talked about what it was like going through the situation, Jason's very bad childhood and how he finally came clean. Every little while he would drop in a short funny story or whatever to pick the place up again, but some of the stuff he said was quite shocking.

He spoke about future projects. He's still really not sure if he can do The Green Hornet. You can tell he wants to, but he doubts his abilities. There are some other reasons to, but my computers starting to screw up so I want to wrap this up. So I'm not sure if he'll be doing that now. He defiantly wants to write it, but maybe not direct. He's also still going to do Fletch Won and still there's no Jason Lee. Jason Lee by the way is working on getting his own film made that he's written and wants to direct. Smith's still going to do Ranger Danger and The Danger Rangers and Clerks: Sell Out (which will be a straight to video animated film) but he's got a small project before all of them. He's not saying what it is, but lead role casting has been done and it's quite a low budget film. Very exciting, as it sounds like he's got some classic Kevin Smith on the way. He also said lots about the 3-disc 10th Anniversary Clerks DVD and it's extra features including a "Very cool" documentary and an animated version of the famous missing scene (When the attend the Wake). He's also involved in Richard 'Donnie Darko' Kelly's next project that sounds very interesting and is apparently a completely different film to Darko.

Other funny moments including his ranting about something written about him in a UK tabloid where he was described as "Fat, bearded and Hobbit like" and his detailed description of the case of food poisoning he was recovering from. He also told a hilarious story about when he a teenager and Batman came out. He was obsessed with it and for the next summer literally became Batman. He said how embarrassed he was about it (which I have now edited out as I'm noticing people on the internet aren't spreading it about...like they normally do) and he's never ever told anyone, even his wife. Usually if someone said that you wouldn't believe them, but with Smith it's different you just know he's not lying.

At 11pm the cinema staff told him he has to leave, but when the audience turned against them, saying how the ticket said until 11:30 we were able to stay. Even though this was a typical part of the Q&A, this was entertaining enough, as was Kevin trying his hardest to understand English culture like "soccor" and where we stand on the Euro.

It was a great evening and one that I won't soon forget. Really funny, inspirational and damn great value for money (almost 5 hours for £25!). If anyone wants to know if he talked about anything that I haven't mentioned, just let me know.

Nah I was down in the main bit. Twelve rows back (I counted as I was curious as to how close I was to Kevin frickin' Smith). I was sat behind a guy who hand his hand up all night long. Quite a lot of the time he even had it up when Kevin was in the middle of a story. Eventually he was chosen and he asked if he ever wanted to do TV programmes. He was the one Kevin joked about with by saying "what?" and looking confused. Felt kinda sorry for the guy, as he was so desperate to ask the question and then it ended with everyone laughing at him.

Then to the left of my girlfriend was a lady who sat there from time to time with a mini fan under her chin. This made quite an annoying little hum and to add to my annoyance, the lady to my right was using up both arm rests. Can't complain though, that's what you get from being in a venue like that.

I'm kinda regretting not going to this now. I did more or less nothing but exist on Monday night, and I'm a big geek too, so it would have been a perfect environment for me. £25 though, hmmm, close call.
