Has anyone here ever played a game with a story line any where near as good as those of the latest films? I certainly haven't. Compared to films like Gladiator, The Talented Mr. Riply and even Save The Last Dance games are put to shame!

Let me give an example. If Zelda- ocarina of time where to be made into a film it would be laughed at. For the fifth time a princess has been kidnapped by a dark knight intent on ruling the world. Once again it is left up to a small boy to save the world. The addition of time travelling is good, but even this is now a cliched idea.

To be honest, the only game I have played with a story line that both involves me and invokes emotion is Soul Reaver. The brilliance of the beginning FMV sequence makes me want to get MY revenge on the world of Nosgoth. No longer am I a man holding a plastic controller- I am a vampire, who has had a terrible injustice forced upon him!

In my view it is too rarely that a developer puts effort into the story of a game. If they realised how important story lines are in imersing the player and envoking emotion, maybe they would take it more seriously. Square already has a series of script writers for their new batch of FF games- expect great things. The maker of MGS too has highlighted the importance of story lines: "I would be the greatest game maker in the world if I could make someone cry after playing one of my games". Clearly, graphics are not enough to do this. We need good stories, music and characters to acheive full imersion.

Ok... so games like puzzle games need no story. But with most games, wouldn't you prefer a great story. Like Tekken Tag. Rather than some "let's show we're the best fighters", instead have a brilliant story for each character explaining why they want to beat each other up! That kind of thing... like Dead or Alive, but better!

True true, but the underlying issue is that the industry is neglecting story lines... just as much as they used to do with music! Developers such as Square, and whoever makes Soul Reaver (who developed it anyone???) have addressed this issue, and it's time more followed. In an industry that is bigger than films now you'd have thought that such essential parts of games were well thought out!

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
