I'm getting a poem published in an anthology called "Symmetry in Verse" by Forward Press.

The anthology is coming out on 31st August 2004 in softback at most large bookshops.

The poem, which I've posted here before, is called Politics:

Damned by dreams that emasculate, whichever thoughts grow fond
A ritual that once grew great, before the broken bonds
Elevated past darkened doubt. Tattooed by streetlight fraud
The taxman knocks, reasons without. Civilian levy duly stored
Forgetting sinful syntax, forging sentences of stealth
Intricately evading tax and procuring piles of wealth.
To save their seats politicians lie, give bribes they don’t resent
With starving hunger babies cry
Whilst income tax is sorely spent
Witness wily officials in their Jaguars
Diamonds nested in wife’s ears
Then see taxpayers in economy cars
They saved for years and years
Will no one break the circle of lies
And do the country a favour
Recall the day democracy died
The birthday of New Labour

If you happen to see a copy of the book, do buy it, the money all goes into publishing more work by unrecognised poety and authors.

If you want a copy of the book signed, just post me it. :-)

Kids can't do poetry? Well this was written by a five, yes five year old. Prepare to eat you words.

Mum made me ate me pi,
3.14 reasons why I cannot die,
forsooth I know not why I am so sad,
you say it wearies you, it wearies me,
was this this face which launched a thousand ships?
And I scorred a gaol.

Genius.

Yeah RoJ, I did one of those when I was a kid too - they do them at all primary school more or less.

When I was in primary school, this company got the whole of Northern Ireland school kids to write a poem, and about 80% of them were put in a book and published - called Cosmic. Of course, all the parents wanted to see their childrens poems printed in a book, so they would buy the book for £15 just to see one poem - one very crap poem, since the kids were about nine or ten.

I got a poem published once.

No matter how bad it is it's published, just gets people to buy the book and gets other people rich!

Anyways, well done for getting published. Good poetry isn't easy to write and is even harder to appreciate. I'm not overly keen on poetry but I do enjoy something that is well constructed and reads well. Like all forms of writing.

It's good but:

I retched upon your face last night,
you were sleeping all the while,
but do not fret, nor state regret,
I did it with a smile.

When voiding up my love for you,
a puce of chips and peas,
I touched your hair and touched you there,
My stomach churning bright green seas.

Is better.
