It's the most famous race on the F1 calendar and it's the next stop for the F1 circus. The Monaco Grand Prix. It's been a tight season as we enter Round 7, with 6 different winners of the first 6 races and everyone still conceivably in with a shot at becoming World Champion.

http://www.freewebs.com/gpsr/srf1.htm for the current driver line up. Please check the site as not everyone I mention in the preview is racing this year!

Let's see what happened around the streets of Monaco last year. In qualifying, Alonso in the Renault took pole position with a lap record time and only fractionally ahead of the Minardi of Verstappen. Out of the main challengers this year, Button got 10th on the grid, Pizzonia 18th. Villeneuve 4th and Ralf Schumacher 16th.

The race was typical Monaco, one mistake and you're in the wall. Two drivers suffered that fate, Verstappen and Panis. The winner in Monaco last year was Villeneuve in the B.A.R, completing a unprecedented hat-trick of wins. Alonso was 2nd and Montoya was 3rd. Overtaking does seem to be possible, as Da Matta proved. He started at the back and drove all the way up to 6th! The challengers this year, Button finished 4th, Pizzonia 14th, Villeneuve was the winner and Ralf Schumacher finished just outside the points in 9th.

Here is some more information:

Lap Records:
Qualifying: 1m17.113s - Alonso (Renault) Set in 2003
Race: 1m17.258s - Bernoldi (Arrows (Now MG F1)) Set in 2002

Previous winners:
2002 - Salo (Toyota)
2003 - Villeneuve (B.A.R)

Top 3 Qualifying last year:
1st Alonso (Renault)(Not racing this year)
2nd Verstappen (Minardi)
3rd Montoya (Williams)

Top 3 Race last year:
1st Villeneuve (B.A.R)
2nd Alonso (Renault) (Not racing this year)
3rd Montoya (Williams)

Top 3 Drivers after Round 7 last year:
1st Villeneuve 30pts (B.A.R)
2nd Trulli 27pts (Renault) (Not racing this year)
3rd Alonso 26pts (Renault) (Not racing this year)

Top 3 Constructors after Round 7 last year:
1st Renault 53pts
2nd B.A.R. 49pts
3rd Jordan 41pts

Onto the prediction questions. Chris picked up a debut win after correctly guessing that Villeneuve would win the Austrian Grand Prix. The gap at the top has been steadily closing after Der Nazi raced away with 2 early wins. Remember, if you are not sure who is racing this year, check the website or previous races in the SR F1 Championship!

TIE BREAKER:
Tough one this time around: What will be the time distance between 1st and 6th at the end of the race? (Example: 1st place Villeneuve was 1m00.214s ahead of 6th place Da Matta) Remember, I only want the time for the tie breaker!

It has never rained for race day in the previous 2 races at Monaco but if it does, drama is almost certain. It should be a cracker!

:D

I'm trying to make a real effort to do things when they need doing instead of at the last minute. Guess I'm back sliding.

Sorry about the spelling I was in a rush to get the post done. I cannot find the qualifying race so I'm assuming it's in time. I'm also glad it was at the top as there are a lot of looooong titles in this forum now and I'm not sure I'd have found it otherwise :)

Well, they obviously aren't real because that wouldn't be fair and Monaco was last weekend.

I run all the races through Grand Prix 4 on the PC because there is an option to make the whole field equal. No one has an advantage and that's why we have had 6 different winners in 6 races and no one really dominating.

I still don't understand. Are these races done on your XBOX / Gamecube / PS2 / PC or are they real?
