Bought a laptop off eBay... damn thing was reported to be working but isn't.

When I power on I get a red screen, shortly after which the laptop powers off again.

If I disconnect the screen entirely I fare slightly better, and I can hear the beep as the memory is checked, and see and hear the disk drive followed by the hard drive being accessed to boot up.

With the screen connected though... just goes red and powers off a few seconds later. No hdd access, other sounds or anything.

Anyone know what's going on?

(PS: I am not interested in being told to report to ebay, argue with the seller or anythign like that. I just want to know what's wrong with the laptop.)

Well yes, but the thing is once I launch a complaint that's it - I guarantee I'll finish up out of pocket and with negative feedback.

If however, I can figure out exactly what's wrong, how to fix it etc and then send a very reasonable request to the seller, we might be able to reach an agreement...

You bought a laptop off of Ebay, that's the problem.

If I was you I'd file the complaint straight away because it sounds as if they've screwed you over.

Faulty screen. Had a similar situation with my moniter when I bent a pin on the connector and tried to use it with a laptop, it was shorting and the laptop powered down to protect itself. That was fixed by unbending the pind, but it sould's like you'll need a new screen for that.
