1) Are you running anything like Norton on your PC's? I had a total mare getting mine to network then it suddenly dawned on me that I had to create a trusted zone in Norton!
And whats the OS's on each PC?
2) You sure it's a router and not a switch? There's a huge difference. Maybe if you gave us the make and model, we could be of more help.

Network Interface Card.
Just re-wire the network, unplug cable, uninstall Driver, Replug Cable, Reinstall Driver until you get it right.
What's a NIC?
Uninstall Drivers for the NICs, and re-configure everything to do with the network. It is what i would have done, or trace back the steps of making the network.
Shove the NIC's into the 'Assign IP address Automatically Mode', its worked for me when my networks buggered up.
