I'll make it simple.

I want to print screen a shot from windows media player, but when I paste it into paint there's just a black box. Any ideas how I can get round this?

Your Windows Media Player is using you GFX cards overlay to display video. I think there is an option to turn it off someware, but I cant remeber where. Remeber that when you disable video overlay the video is rendered by the CPU rather than the GFx card, and so it isnt as good as quailty and is slower. The same applies if you use Winamp for video (much better in my opinion).

Edit: Found it. Got Tools - Options - Perfomance tab - Advanced (under Video Acceleration) - Uncheck Use Overlays (In Video Acceleration or DVD as aplicable).
