Is it really coming out this month?

If it is, i might buy that with my new computer instead of XP. Apparently its this month, but the alpha version. With begs the question;

If i buy the alpha version, can i upgrade to the real version for free, when it comes out?

Anybody know any Longhorn info, post it here - it would be greatly appreciated :)

The replacement for NTFS/FAT32 has been dropped due to development time and won;t see the inital release of LH. They've also dropped Palladian(sp?) for the same reason. All this to rush it out for 2005 (along with XBOX2 & XMA)

Avalon isn't that much of a change to the desktop, just requires DX9 to get anything out of it. The interesting part will be the integration of .NET2.

Do any of you read The Register?

Basically there hopefully showing off an alpha version at WinHEC a conference show, it wont be released. Its like a developer showing a game at E3 even though the game could still be in very early stages and be a couple of years away.

Longhorn versions are available to download off the internet if you can find them, but these are very early and probably unstable.

Longhorn could be out in 2005 but there were reports that Longhorn would be delayed to 2006 or later, and Microsoft release a updated XP which would see us through til then.

Bill Gates' boys are expected to bring an alpha version of the Longhorn operating system to WinHEC (the Windows Hardware Engineering Conference), this May. Failure to do so could cause the software giant problems as it would mean that they would miss the start of the next hardware development cycle.

It's not fact. The truth is Microsoft won't release it in May.
