My mate is having some problems with his PC, everytime he goes on the internet it lets him on for about 5 mins and then it will come up with a little promt saying something like "System has to shutdown" (its actually nothing like that but its similar) and then it countsdown from 60 seconds and the hold computer shuts down.

So, whats the dealio?

You may have the new Sasser worm which is apparently similar to the blaster virus.....Article link
I still think the virus is the blaster virus, this only affects you when your machine is connected to the internet....if you have downloaded the fixblast.exe that I suggested earlier and this has not fixed it, then the registry should be checked manually
click on:
start -> run -> "regedit" then
HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Software -> Microsoft -> Windows -> CurrentVersion ->Run
look for something that says "msblast.exe" or "blaster.exe" then remove it
(you can also search for it in regedit by clicking on edit -> find......then type msblast.exe (I am not 100% sure if it will be displayed as this)

If you look in c:\windows\ there should be a file called avserve.exe delete it and remove the reg key under HLKM \Software \Microsoft\Windows \CurrentVersion\
Run that points to the avserve.exe file

Press ctrl+alt+del and look at the proccesses that are running, if there is anything there called msblast or similar, then you have the virus.

Happened again.
*cries*

This is what it said :

"The system process (a file on my comuter) terminated unexpectedly with status code (a 10 digit number)."
What does this mean?

Should i phone up my ISP and order for someone to come and check it out because it only happens when i go online, or is there a Microsoft number i can phone for help?

(Thank god Xbox Live is still working)

It just happened again and i tried my best to jot down everything it said, i didn't copy everything it said.

It said :

"This System is shutting down. Please save all work in progress and log off. This shutdown was initiated by the NT Authority System."

It had more but i didn't have enough time to copy it.
What does this mean, is it a virus?
