Same as, but for game servers. When I had trouble with my BT line tracert was a great way of proving the problem was BT's and not Jolt's.

When my network is dodgy i just ping, i only use tracert when having trouble connecting to external sites.

Ok, when you normally send a packet it leaves you and ends up at another computer, or, it leaves you and cant connect to the other computer so the packet gets lost. But in this case the packet is being re-routed 6 times (effectively being bounced around and around) and then timing out.
