Destroy him.
THINK MAN!
Now that would be a birthday.
X-2 firstly contains some of the finest graphics of any RPG currently avaliable. The various characters are all well drafted and presented, whilst the beautiful dreamland locations are stunning to look at. X-2 contains some breath-taking visuals and glorious locations.
What however does let Final Fantasy down is the fact that you need some background experience of the series in order to understand what is happening in X-2. Gamers new to the series will find it difiucult to understand what is happening, unlike Crystal Chronicles on the Gamecube which is a brand new idea. This is a shame as such an involving game will leave some gamers confused.
The Final Fantasy series contains two basic elements in every title. These are exploration and combat. X-2 is a unique change from the original combat formula, removing some of the basic elements used in the previous FF titles during battle. This is again a shame as Square-Enix have medled with a formula that worked so brilliantly, and the new style of fighting isn't as good and sometimes feels akward.
But what X-2 looses in the combat parts, it more than makes up for in the exploration side. The quests in X-2 are truly epic and thrilling experiences. From every artifact discovered to every bridge crossed, X-2 gives that sense of achievement to the gamer in all aspects of exploring the vast worlds.
What will disappoint hardcore FF fans will be the change in the gameplay. Some of the previous elements of exploring have been removed. This will disappoint the hardcore fans as seeing X-2 is a sequel, you would expect the original styles of play to be present from Final Fantasy X.
X-2 however is brilliantly designed in the way that this game will take weeks to complete. Exploring and discovering everything there is to find will take you ages to complete. What can get frustrating though is the constant re-tracing of your steps. You'll find yourself revisiting many parts of the worlds several times, which can get tedious.
X-2 also contains some of the finest music in any RPG. The fairy-tail like, soothing sounds of the various stages really make you feel your actually in the worlds, and are topped off with some brilliant game sounds and character animation.
Basically X-2 is aimed at the more hardcore of Final Fantasy fans, which will be disappointed with the changes in some areas of the game. But X-2 is still an epic and thrilling quest with some gorgeuos graphics and challenging quests. Despite the flaws, X-2 is a worthy purchase of any RPG fan, whether you're new to the Final Fantasy series or not. A thrilling adventure yet again from the geniuses at Square-Enix
